The Book: Hand Me Down Your Revolution

“Perhaps the best such body of work I have ever seen.”

—From the Foreword by Yahiya Emerick, world-renowned novelist and author of the Ahmad Deen series, What Islam Is All About, and Muslim Youth Speak!

About The Book:

A young man internally struggles to wear a kufi, while a young woman goes through the challenges of wearing hijab everyday. An improv student delivers his best performance yet, and a niqab-wearing superhero fights crime in her free time. Teachers learn from their students, youth navigate the rituals of loss and grief, writers pass on wisdoms on life, hearts find solace in the Quran. The hands of generations write their own story, letters are written to tomorrow's children—a revolution is handed down.

Hand Me Down Your Revolution is a collection of 100 short stories, poems, and personal memoirs—each piece an ode to what it means to be a young Muslim living in a modern world. From heartfelt stories about family and struggling with identity, to poems reflecting on faith and those innermost feelings, Hand Me Down Your Revolution is the shout of new writers emerging from a crowd, trusting the world to carry on their message.

About The Publisher: Muslim Youth Musings

Muslim Youth Musings (MYM) is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit literary organization dedicated to empowering Muslim voices through mentorship, community, and publishing. Our vision is to be where Muslims come home to reflect.

At the heart of our work are our writers' cohorts—free three-month intensive programs where writers work closely with dedicated editors to develop their craft. These cohorts create more than just polished pieces; they foster deep connections between writers and editors through one-on-one calls, monthly group meetings, and ongoing support. Our editors approach each piece with the understanding that behind every word is a person seeking to express something meaningful about their experience.

Each year, we welcome writers from across the world into our community. Through structured workshops, writing prompts, and editorial guidance, we help them move from initial ideas to finished pieces that resonate with readers. Many pieces in this anthology emerged from these careful conversations between writers and editors, demonstrating the power of mentorship in developing strong Muslim voices.

But MYM is more than just a writing program—it's a growing community of Muslims who believe in the power of words to create change. Through our published pieces, writing workshops, and collaborative events, we're working to build a culture where Muslim literary expression can flourish. Every story shared, every piece published, and every connection made brings us closer to our vision of a world where Muslim voices are heard, understood, and celebrated.
