After 8 years, DREAM continues to facilitate the growth of a thriving Muslim community, rooted in Detroit’s Black Muslim history while attracting a young, multi-racial future. With your endless support, we will remain committed to the broader neighborhood, meeting the concerns and building the capacity and connectedness of all our residents, no matter their background.

As 2022 comes to a close and we reflect on a year recovering from a pandemic-induced recession, it’s poetic that the support of our sponsors hasn’t faded. Despite these unrelenting catastrophes, Dream of Detroit this year worked on more fronts than ever before. And because our funding comes from individuals like you, we want to share some highlights of your impact:

• DREAM staff and volunteer leaders were invited to speak at 5 public events, on topics ranging from housing affordability to criminal justice reform to building and Islamic community
• DREAM Community Land Trust featured in 2 local news outlets - ABC7 News and Michigan Radio, an NPR affiliate
• Received 1 very special award, honored as one of the "Impactful 40" by Enterprise Community Partners at their 40th anniversary
• 50 volunteers at Motor City Makeover - an annual neighborhood clean up day
• 1000+ hours of volunteer time, worth at least $50,000
• 3 Book Club meetings - exploring justice in the Quran, leadership development, and the history of Detroit
• 2 movie nights with more than 75 total attendees
• $300,000 raised
• 40 attendees at our 2022 Membership Meeting for new participants, and 20 attendees at our Community Organizing Workshop
• 3 new residents at Project Homecoming, our transitional home for formerly incarcerated men
• Public launch of our oral history public archive, The Dream Storytelling Project, with 50 oral histories from community elders and more to come
• 4 new staff added to continue increasing our impact
• 1 home finished, allowing our first Project Homecoming House Manager to remain living in our neighborhood fully independently
• 5 summer interns, including high schoolers and college students
• Collaborations with 5 critical community partners

Together, we have come this far and now, with a fierce sense of urgency, we’re asking you to embark on the next stage of this journey with us. 

We've come a long way on this journey but we haven't reached the destination just yet. There is still so much more we hope to accomplish in the coming year and beyond.
