Why $200K Is Needed Now to Bring a Full-Time Imam to the Islamic Society of Greater Lafayette

Did you know that about 1 in 4 U.S. adults raised Muslim no longer identify as Muslim? According to the 2023–24 Religious Landscape Study, 25% of American Muslims eventually leave Islam—often because they lacked guidance during vulnerable stages of life.

In a city like West Lafayette, home to Purdue University, hundreds of Muslim students, many first-generation, arrive far from home every year. They face academic pressure, loneliness, identity struggles, and environments where holding onto faith becomes difficult.

Many struggle silently.
Many feel isolated.
And some begin to drift away from Islam simply because they lack guidance during the most vulnerable years of their lives.

Every parent wonders:

• Will my child stay strong in their faith?
• Will they have a caring person to turn to when overwhelmed or confused?

A dedicated Imam ensures they do. He becomes the mentor, advisor, and trusted adult who supports your child when you cannot—emotionally, spiritually, and personally.

Our Goal

ISGL is raising funds to bring a full-time Imam and chaplain who will:

• Lead prayers and Friday khutbahs consistently
• Provide counseling and spiritual guidance to individuals, families, students, and reverts
• Create educational programs and faith-building activities
• Help students navigate stress, doubts, and crisis
• Strengthen Islamic identity and community on campus

Why Act Now?

Purdue’s Muslim student population is growing fast. Their challenges are growing even faster. Now is the time to build support, protect their faith, and give Sadaqah Jāriyah that lasts for generations.
