EARTHQUAKE SHAKES TURKEY AND SYRIA

On Monday, February 6th, a massive magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit Turkey and aftershocks were felt in several neighboring countries, including Syria and Lebanon. The earthquake was followed by another strong temblor, causing tremors to be felt in distant regions.

On-going count from the field: over 40,000 lives lost.

OUR EMERGENCY RESPONSE PLAN

In any emergency situation, HCI follows these steps:

1. Conduct a needs assessment which will determine the extent of the disaster, what the people affected need in the short and long term, and who exactly HCI can help.
2. Begin the first phase of relief titled Emergency Relief, which is the provision of basic necessities, such as food and water, hygiene items, and temporary/transitional shelter setups (e.g. tents). In this phase, we provide basic health assistance through medical supplies and/or medicine.
3. Begin the second phase of relief titled Early Recovery, which involves (re)building of permanent housing and providing cash assistance so that families can return to their homes and children can return to school.
4. Begin the third phase of relief titled Community Development, which involves investing in restoring health systems, providing psychosocial support and trauma relief, and working with the community to rebuild infrastructure and social systems.

HUMAN CONCERN INTERNATIONAL IS ON THE GROUND NOW

Your support is needed immediately to deliver life-saving aid to those affected by the earthquake.

Here's how you can help:

1. Providing water: when emergencies occur, access to clean water becomes challenging.
2. Providing food: families who have lost their belongings are further challenged with feeding themselves and their children.
3. Providing shelter: without access to temporary shelter, many are left in the streets.
4. Providing medical aid: children and the elderly are at grave risk without the required medical attention.

Your relief today could mean someone's life is saved. Your support means the world.
