LAST YEAR PROGRAM MEDIA COVERAGE.

HELP US TO VOLUNTEER AT ATSUMA EARTHQUAKE AREA THIS WINTER.

Last year on our 1st International Volunteering Program in Sapporo, Japan we had helped the Shiitake Mura home for disabled people to shovel snow, help them with their firewood and also help around their mushroom farm.

We also went to Aiarumisumai Elderly home to entertain them with Malaysia cultural performance, made origami, played some games, cut their hair and nails and also shoveled snow off their roof.

We also had a few other activities in between such as local interactions with IYEO members, cultural sharing with local students and also we had a meeting with Hokkaido Prefectural Office.

This year our aim is to repeat the same program with an addition of volunteering at Atsuma Earthquake affected area which happened September of this year.

We had a successful program last year, but as we are a group of a volunteer from a country near the equator (Malaysia) we had underestimated the financial cost of running an international program in the peak of winter.

But this year, with your help and support we hope to make this year program a success.

Below you can read our program proposal.
Thank you.

(OUR OFFICIAL PROGRAM PROPOSAL SENT TO ALL POTENTIAL PARTNERS)

INTRODUCTION

This year we are continuing from last year program which successfully organized but with more impact to Hokkaido especially with the recent news regarding Atsuma which were hit with a substantial earthquake. So we are calling it "Atsuma 愛してる - an International Volunteering Program by SIM Kuala Lumpur & IYEO Japan", we hope the name will help expand the dedication of SSEAYP International Malaysia Kuala Lumpur (SIM-KL) internationally, striking the balance between the local and international community. Furthermore, SIM should grab the opportunity in taking advantage of the international network that has been developed through The Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Programme (SSEAYP) since 1974.

In the spirit of international cooperation, it will be a collaborative programme between SSEAYP International Malaysia Kuala Lumpur (SIM-KL), International Youth Exchange Organization of Japan (IYEO) and Hokkaido International Foundation (HIF).

Through this programme, participants will have the opportunity to learn from an international organization that is the IYEO about the best practices in organizing activities and contributing to society. Among activities that will be carried out during this programme are an institutional visit, local interaction and most importantly volunteering activities.

It is expected that participants will acquire a hands-on international volunteering experience, which will not only broaden their perspective but also enhance their skills. We believed that with the exposure, it would impart positive mindset to participants and would also drive them to continue contributing to the community.

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of organizing this programme are;

  • To foster networking and social relationship with IYEO with the aim of further collaboration in organizing future programmes.
  • To gain insight into how IYEO utilize its resources and organize programmes in order to contribute to society. The knowledge sharing and hands-on experience will be used to further improve local programmes and contribution.
  • To give exposure to participants on volunteering in an international environment. It will provide them with an international perspective and will help them grow as volunteers so they could further benefit society both locally and internationally.
  • To increase the level of enthusiasm for volunteering with the aim of initiating new or more impactful and valuable programmes as well as providing continuous support.
  • To build a relationship between local communities and volunteers in order to have mutual understanding and strengthen international network and cooperation.

CONCLUSION

It is about time that SSEAYP International Malaysia Kuala Lumpur (SIM-KL) expands its reach globally and strengthen its networking. Through this enriching programme, it is hoped that participants would benefit immensely and would apply the knowledge acquired for a greater impact on society. Should the module delivers sustainable project management, this could be the catalyst for a renewed partnership of a new exchange program among the SI network.
