Help to free Imam Jamil Al Amin aka H Rap Brown, a wrongfully imprisoned Civil Rights Icon and Human Rights Activist.

Imam Jamil Al Amin, formerly known as H Rap Brown, a longtime forgotten Black Revolutionary, Civil Rights Icon, and Human Rights Activist wrongfully imprisoned for the past 21 years, has a new opportunity for justice and needs our urgent help for a new legal defense.

(Yusef Salaam, Member of the Exonerated 5 as portrayed in Netflix's When They See Us, at the Free Imam Jamil Nationally Rally in Atlanta 10/4/20)

For those unaware, Imam Jamil Al Amin, at the time H Rap Brown, was the fifth chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and Minister of Justice for the Black Panther Party during the Civil Rights Movement. At the age of 21, Brown, as part of a delegation to demand action for the civil rights of African Americans, met with President Lyndon B. Johnson. Brown laid the foundations for Black Political Power in the South by fighting against Jim Crow segregation and organizing Black voters.

Brown moved to Atlanta, Georgia as Imam Jamil Al Amin after converting to Islam to establish a community Mosque in the West End neighborhood, notorious for its gang violence and drugs. Imam Jamil, concerned about the social revolution and spiritual upliftment of his community, led a neighborhood cleanup of drugs and prostitution through anti-drug and violence campaigns, and established several social programs while simultaneously unifying the diverse Muslim community in America nationally.

Imam Jamil was wrongfully convicted and sentenced to life in prison in 2002 for a crime he did not commit. Despite Otis Jackson publicly confessing and matching the description of the shooter from eyewitnesses, the confession has never been mentioned in a single trial of Al Amin's, and factual evidence was left outside of the trial due to judicial misconduct. Imam Jamil Al Amin has been intentionally targeted, framed, and tarnished from the history of the Civil Rights Movement for his powerful revolutionary character deemed as a threat to the establishment.

Because of the launch of the Conviction Integrity Unit, the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office now has the power to reopen Imam Jamil's case and exonerate Imam Jamil based on the clear evidence of his innocence and confessions of the crime.

Students for Imam Jamil, a national group of youth organizers, launched a one week grassroots campaign prior to the Fulton County District Attorney Runoff Election on 8/11/20.

Fani Willis unseated 23 year incumbent Paul Howard during the election. On Monday August 10th, in response to national and local efforts from the Students for Imam Jamil campaign urging both candidates to reopen the case, Fani Willis spoke in support of looking into past convictions:

In order to truly win this fight against a court system that has failed Imam Jamil multiple times due to his influential political and social status, it will require the best Legal Team to represent Imam Jamil.

All funds raised will be going directly to Kairi Al Amin, the son of Imam Jamil.

Those who stand for justice against the systemic oppression facing Black lives in America and Muslim surveillance in a post 9/11 society, must also stand in solidarity with a living Black Muslim Revolutionary who has been long forgotten.
