This campaign will collect all funds raised by June 12, 2020 at 12:00 AM EDT

Help us raise funds for Br. Myles Carter after he was wrongfully arrested by Police. Every dollar over $10K will go towards community social justice advocacy.

UPDATE #2:

We want to thank everyone who donated to our fund. We have reached and surpassed our goal in less than 24hrs! Myles has been in touch with an excellent attorney and we are working to provide for his other financial needs. With that said, we have decided to collect all money raised over $10,000 and create an endowment for all unjustly arrested people.

Every dollar raised over 10,000 will go to (1) legal fees for eligible individuals in our community (2) social justice advocacy and (3) facilitating know your rights trainings for the inner city

Once again, thanks everyone for your overwhelming support.

UPDATE:

Many people have reached out to us asking about what this money will be used for. We understand your concerns.

Although we cannot share the specifics of his legal situation, we do know that when Myles returned home he found his car to have been vandalized and his tires slashed. Therefore we have intended the money to be used for 5 things:
1- A good lawyer (not public defender)
2- New tires
3- Security cameras in case more people try to assault him
4- Rental Car
5- Any other financial need he now has

_________________________________________________________________________

Br. Myles Carter is a pillar of our Masjid and dedicated member of our community. On Monday, June 1st, he was wrongfully tackled and arrested by members of the Buffalo Police Department while his hands were up and his back was turned as he spoke to the news.

To be clear: He was not looting. He was not rioting. He was not breaking any laws. There was NO Curfew that night.

He was simply raising his arms, and speaking to the media when he was tackled from behind and arrested for no justifiable cause.

We are looking to raise funds for Br. Myles' legal and financial support. All money raised will go directly to him.

A Pillar of our Community

Anyone who knows Br. Myles knows that he is a peaceful soul. He is a father of 5, and a black business owner. In the past he has assisted in and led many community outreach projects for the Jami Masjid. He has been a core volunteer at our Annual Community BBQs and Annual Community Giveaways. He's taught Woodworking and Cooking Classes for Children at the mosque. In fact, he was even our Mosque's Liaison with the Buffalo Police.
