What is RTP? 

The Ramadan Tent Project (RTP) is a social enterprise dedicated to serving the youth and wider community through creating spaces of spirituality, dialogue, & empowerment. 

Founded in London, UK in 2013, RTP began as a community initiative inviting people of all faiths and none to break-fast together during the month of Ramadan. RTP envisages a world in which communities are brought together through the spirit of Ramadan all year round. We do this through our flagship Open Iftar project and our RTP Talks series.

At RTP, we believe that although Ramadan is the holiest month of the Islamic calendar, it is not the only month. It should not simply be limited to a month-long increase of spirituality, but be a source of inspiration for how we conduct ourselves and engage with the communities of which we are part of throughout the year. Instilling the spirit of Ramadan, all year round! 

RTP has grown to pride itself on being a model of servant leadership to society. We remain advocates of serving the wider community through creating spaces inspired by spirituality, that bolster community cohesion, interfaith dialogue, and youth empowerment. Our ethos is borne out of our commitment to softening hearts and minds, to fostering good relations between people and to assist in nurturing and developing the next generation of leaders.  

What is Open Iftar? 

Open Iftar is the first global community-led public iftar campaign, inviting Muslims & people of all faiths, cultural backgrounds, ages, and anyone that may be in need of a safe, nurturing space, to join together to partake of the community spirit and explore the Islamic faith through food, inspirational talks, and engaging discussion. Open Iftar bridges communities; it is a space in which our commonalities are highlighted, our differences celebrated and human connection is forged. 

We've hosted over 50,000 guests across 

7 cities and 4 continents including London, Portland, Toronto, Istanbul, and Ndola since our inception. In addition, Open Iftar has generated unprecedented international press coverage from the USA to Malaysia, having been featured in: BBC News, Huffington Post, The Guardian, Al Jazeera, Buzzfeed News, TRT World, Geo TV and many others. 

The initiative was shortlisted as one of the 50 Most Innovative Global Muslim Startups in 2016. Our event has attracted premium brands and speakers from modest fashion, halal food, lifestyle, finance, music, art, media & technology, sport & business, entertainment, diplomacy, the UN, the EU, world famous entrepreneurs, prominent public figures and many more.

We are delighted and excited to announce the first-ever Open Iftar UK Tour to take place in 2018 and spread the community spirit across the UK. The cities confirmed are as follows:

In addition to the UK Tour, Open Iftar will also be featuring in Portland, USA and Istanbul, Turkey this year! 

Where will your money go? 

Your donations will go towards covering costs across 8 Open Iftar cities including the UK Tour and International campaign. Ultimately providing a unique Ramadan experience to potentially over 15,000 people across the globe!  Costs include: 

- Marquee Rental = £45,000 
- Installation = £5,000
- Catering equipment = £2,500 
- Security = £5,000 
- Cleaning equipment & waste management = £2,500
- PA/AV System = £15,000 
- Hot meals / Fruit / Drinks / Water / Dates = £50,000 
- Insurance = £5,000 
- Merchandise & souvenirs (branded t-shirts, wristbands)  = £8,000
- Marketing equipment (banners/flyers/calendars) = £10,000
- Van hire = £2,000
- Generators 
- Fuel  
- Renumeration for services (graphics, operations, media equipment)
- Travel and accommodation costs for core/delivery team on UK Tour 
- Volunteer travel expenses 
- Miscellaneous & Contingency 

• Any surplus donations will be used for future RTP projects and events. 

• LaunchGood collects a standard 5% platform fee along with a 3% credit card processing fee. Supporters have the option to cover the 8% in fees upon online checkout.
