The struggles faced by orphans are often unseen, yet their strength in the face of hardship serves as a reminder of human resilience. Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) himself grew up as an orphan, yet went on to become the greatest example for all of humanity. For a child who loses a parent early in life, the weight of that loss makes an already difficult world even heavier.

Islam places immense emphasis on caring for orphans, promising great reward for those who extend compassion and support. Sponsorship is more than financial aid, it is an act of mercy, charity, and a path to draw closer to Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). The Qur’an mentions orphans over 20 times, underscoring both the virtue of good treatment and the severity of neglecting their rights.

This year, McMaster OSP is proud to partner with Human Appeal, working to provide orphans with food, clothing, education, and access to healthcare. By the will of Allah and with the support of our community, we have raised over $100 000 in the past two years, helping transform the lives of hundreds of children worldwide. As one of the largest student-led fundraising initiatives at McMaster, we collaborate annually with students, staff, local businesses, and community members to sustain this mission.
