Qurbani with a difference: Empowering Imams and Communities 

The Imam Development Program Qurbani Project is designed to benefit some of the most vulnerable communities in Africa through the hands of an Imam. As an organisation whose primary focus is the upliftment and empowerment of Imams, we take great pride in being able to deliver a unique Qurbani experience aimed at strengthening the position of the Imam. Ultimately, creating a stronger link between the Imam, the Masjid committee, and the communities they serve.

The Qurbani Process

Step 1: Locally Sourced Animals by the Imam

Vetted Imams from across the 13 countries purchase animals directly from local herdsmen, actively supporting their businesses and the local economy. This ensures that the Qurbani takes place in the village of the Imam, fostering community engagement and empowerment.

Step 2: Voucher Distribution for Efficiency

Imams utilize a voucher system to ensure the easy and professional distribution of meat to beneficiaries who need it the most, ensuring a smooth and organized process.

Step 3: All Rites Observed by the Imam on Eid

The Imam and their dedicated Qurbani team, consisting of Masjid trustees and others, meticulously oversee the entire Qurbani process, maintaining the sanctity of the ritual.

Step 4: Packaging and Distribution

The Imam and their team pack and distribute meat parcels to chosen beneficiaries in their communities, further elevating the position of the Imam.

"Alhamdulillah, the IDP Qurbani program is a massive program because my community is so poor and it's only during Eid-ul-Adha that they taste meat. They feel remembered in the time of celebrating Eid by the Muslim ummah. This programme has had a significant impact on my community, including an increase in the number of Muslims attending masjids and the attendance of children at madrasahs. A touching story with a grandmother from my community is that she only tasted meat before her husband died in her 40s because she now can't afford to buy meat since she is very poor, but with the IDP Qurbani program she is very happy that at least once a year she tastes meat, and it is her dua that this year's Qurbani program is done in my centre so that she will be among the beneficiaries, Insha'Allah." The Masjid itself serves as more than just a place of worship. At his Masjid, you will find a hostel, a vegetable garden, and a small chicken broiler business that brings in income for the Masjid! The spirit of Eid is at this Masjid. The anticipation builds as the goats arrive. The students are elated.
