Our Story

In 2005, Dr. Hind Jarrah, Ph.D., gathered a group of Muslim women in North Texas with a mission: to serve their community and provide much-needed support for families in crisis.

They identified critical needs:

• Survivors of domestic violence, including women, men, and children, lacked culturally sensitive, trauma-informed services.
• Parents sought leadership programs for their children.
• Elderly individuals facing neglect and abuse needed safe housing and care.
• The broader community needed opportunities to learn about Islam and strengthen relationships.

With these priorities in mind, Texas Muslim Women’s Foundation (TMWF) was established—committed to strengthening families and offering vital support. Today, our impact reaches beyond North Texas, providing essential services nationwide.

Our Impact

For nearly 20 years, TMWF has taken a strategic, holistic approach to providing services and raising awareness. Our goal is to help individuals and families in crisis and ensure they have the resources to rebuild their lives.

With your support, we have:
✅ Established two 24/7 crisis shelters for survivors of domestic violence.
✅ Created 27+ transitional housing units, including HUD Rapid Re-Housing.
✅ Opened a senior home to support elderly individuals facing abuse and neglect.
✅ Brought together Muslim religious leaders (Imams) across North Texas in a zero-tolerance stance against domestic violence.
✅ Led community programs that strengthen family bonds and promote understanding.
✅ Founded the Contemporary Arab & Muslim Cultural Institute (CAMSCI) at the University of North Texas.
✅ Provided education on domestic violence prevention, online safety for youth, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship.
