Created by MSA Lone Star Council (LSC), Project Sadaqa is an annual collaborative effort from all MSAs to give back to those in need. This initiative started in 2013 when Texas MSAs came together at the state capitol to volunteer. Project Sadaqa aims to build relations with our community by volunteering our time and efforts to help those in need. From now until Showdown 2023, MSA members will raise as many funds as possible with their respective schools. At the end of the given time frame, the funds will be collected from all the schools by LSC and donated to the Palestine Children's Relief Fund, which will focus its efforts on developing safe sacred spaces for Muslim communities. Project Sadaqa is a project of the annual MSA Showdown, hosted in the Spring.
The Palestine Children's Relief Fund was established in 1992 by concerned humanitarians in the USA to bring injured and sick children for free medical care they could not get locally. Since then, PCRF has sent over 2,000 sick and injured children for free medical care, as well as sponsored hundreds of volunteer medical teams from all over the world to treat tens of thousands of sick and injured youths in local hospitals. PCRF also has built two pediatric cancer departments in Palestine and has several more major programs and projects taking place to help support the development of a sustainable healthcare system there. PCRS is a grassroots organization depending on the support of thousands of volunteers all over the world to help us achieve their humanitarian mission.
The mission of PCRF is to provide medical and humanitarian relief collectively and individually to Arab children throughout the Levant, regardless of their nationality, politics, or religion. PCRF envisions a world where all children in the Middle East have access to quality medical care, regardless of nationality, religious or political affiliation, and specialized health services for children are independent and developed at the highest standards.
In 2019, PCRF began a project to help support the care for children in Gaza suffering from congenital or traumatic limb amputations. Many children were suffering from gunshot or bombing injuries, while others were born with defects that required amputations. To ensure that these kids would get the care they needed to be mobile again, PCRF brought them together as a community for treatment — in many cases sending them abroad for free care that they could not get at home — while also working with Hamid Rehabilitation Hospital in Gaza City to help them get care locally. In 2020, PCRF began providing mental health treatment and support for these children, as well as supporting the training for the local staff in Hamid Hospital, and providing materials and equipment.
