Dear friends and supporters,

We are pleased to share with you that the Women's Mosque of Canada (Canada's 1st and only women-led, women-run mosque) has now turned 4 years old. As we continue to embark on this journey of creating a safe, inclusive healing “heart space” for women with hopes that their healing with have a positive trickle effect on our community, we seek your support so that we can continue to ensure that women have:

• A safe space where we can connect with our Creator Allah SWT, each other and heal. This is a safe space that is led by and for women.
• ​Support to advocate for the rights of Muslim women both within the faith and in broader society.​
• Support with addressing the challenges they may be facing with respect to Domestic abuse/violence, gender-based violence, gender-based islamophobia and/or other forms of trauma and/or discrimination.
• ​A safe non-judgmental space to learn about the tradition and the role of women within the faith and within our history.

Ways to Give

Each year the Women's Mosque of Canada runs a fundraising campaign to request support for the following:

Hardship Fund - to support women that are fleeing domestic abuse and/or violence, who are living in shelter and/or dealing with extreme cases of honour based violence and/or forced marriage. These women are often fleeing with very little on hand and may require assistance with clothing, food, shelter, and/or child care as well as transportation costs.

General Operating Fund - This fund allows us to hire skilled staff to support with counselling and/or support services offered to women including but not limited to legal support, trauma-informed supportive counselling, and spiritual counselling to address issues of shame etc.,

Exploration of Faith Fund -This fund specifically supports sisters that are interested in learning about Islam and/or are currently in the process of taking their shahadah (oath) to accept the faith. This fund allows us to purchase books, prayer mats, prayer beads and also additional resources they may require to take their faith and maintain a strong relationship with first and foremost Allah SWT and the mosque. The mosque continues to be a safe haven for sisters looking to embrace the faith.  This fund is also a great resource for those sisters who have for a variety of reasons turned away from the faith and are looking to return <3

Sadaqah/Charity Fund - These funds will be used to support women and children in the community specifically in need of food during Ramadan, on Eid and thereafter. Fitrah and fidya donations are welcome.

While the work is far from over, we are truly grat4eful for the support we have seen thus far and are excited about the year ahead inshAllah.

Donation Amounts & Their Impact

While all donations are welcome, we encourage donations to be made in the following amounts (where possible):

$50.00 - Covers two meals for a woman or covers a uber/taxi ride to safety

$100.00 - Covers a starter kit for women entering into shelter and/or into a new home space that they can call their own - kit may include linens, towels, some cutlery, pillow, dishcloth, candle, and a journal along with a pen and a copy of the Quran.

$200.00 - Operates as a rental supplement for one woman for one month as she attempts to reintegrate into society after leaving a difficult/ abusive relationships.

$500.00 - Supports one woman with Counselling support for 10 sessions that will allow her to begin her healing journey with a skilled professional from a trauma-informed lens that is also Muslim 

$750.00 -  Covers the cost of one woman travelling to and from appointments for up to 6 months (transportation costs) for legal proceedings and/or other community programs and services supporting her safety and healing.

$1200.00 - Ensures that one woman will have access to clean healthy food for up to 6 months offsetting her grocery bills for herself and her children

$2500.00 - Provides two women with access to a part-time paid placement to act as a co-facilitator as part of the mosque's bi-weekly sisters circles during the summer months (4 months).

$5000.00 - Supports an entire congregation of women to gain access to a rented space for just over 3 months thus allowing them to pray and heal together with Allah SWT as their witness.

As the last 10 days of the Ramadan fast approach, we ask that you sincerely consider making a contribution to our work, as this is truly an attempt to support and impact the next generation of women, children and men towards creating a more loving and supportive environment for all.
