On Saturday, May 22nd after nearly 20 years of silence, Mount Nyiragongo erupted destroying homes, and livelihoods in DR Congo's eastern city of Goma; a city of 700,000 people, just south of the volcano.
There are currently more than 10,000 displaced individuals in a camp with no running water, sanitation, electricity and barely any food. A total of 25,000 individuals have been displaced in multiple camps.

DR Congo is the poorest country in the world in GDP, with an average annual salary of $800 per family, but the country is also the richest in the world with $24 trillion in mineral resources in the ground.

There is also a real demand for an orphanage, because children who have lost their parents have been displaced and are living in the camps too. We have now identified 22 children who are living in the camps without parents. The cost of an orphanage, with dormitories to house 50 children and staff is $450,000.
Because of the natural resource coltan, (needed in all phones, green energy cars & electrical devices) found in the east DR Congo; Goma has been victim of conflict, famine, displacement, the highest rates of use of rape, as a weapon of war, and now, a volcano. The most affected group in Goma are Congolese women, and children.
