Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Raji’un

On the night of November 1st, 2024, tragedy struck a group of young sisters who were returning home from a joyful Nikkah celebration in Plano, Texas. The vehicle carrying seven girls was involved in a devastating multi-car accident that left three severely injured and claimed the lives of three.

Among those lost was Aliyah Abdurahman Khalid, a gentle and kind-hearted 19-year-old from Nashville, Tennessee. She had traveled to Dallas with her family to celebrate love and faith, but her journey was cut short far too soon. Aliyah is survived by her parents, Eman Abdurahman and Khalid Khaya, three brothers, and three sisters—two of whom were in the vehicle with her during the accident.

While we grieve her absence, we also seek to honor her life.

Aliyah embodied compassion, faith, and grace. She was loved by all who knew her. As a college student preparing to graduate within the next two years, her future was full of promise. In the months following her passing, her family and friends have dedicated themselves to preserving her memory through acts of continuous charity (sadaqah jariyah).

This Ramadan, we are launching a powerful campaign in her honor: to build a masjid in Yemen in Aliyah’s name.

Through the MATW Project (Muslims Around the World), we are aiming to raise $25,000 USD to build a masjid in one of the most underserved and famine-stricken regions of Yemen. This masjid will include a wudu area and serve as a hub for prayer, Quran study, and community gatherings. It will be a space of worship, light, and healing—for generations to come, Insha’Allah.

And if we surpass our goal, we will raise an additional $26,000 USD to build a solar-powered water well, providing clean, sustainable water to a community in dire need.

This is more than a fundraiser. It’s a legacy. It’s a reflection of Aliyah’s spirit—a soul who brought people together in love, community, and kindness.
