On the night of the 4th March a powerful fire broke out in a three bedroom flat in Shadwell, east London. Over 15 Bangladeshi brothers were living in the space. One of the brothers suffered critical injuries and has sadly passed away in hospital. The flat is now destroyed and the residents are facing homelessness. They have lost everything. The council and the government is offering limited help. So it's on us to support
The brothers are warehouse, hospitality and delivery workers earning low wages in precarious jobs with few employment protections. They need urgent support to get back on their feet. They have been exploited by their landlord who created unsafe and overcrowded conditions while charging extortionate rents. Numerous complaints were made by locals but the council did not take action until it was too late. Unfortunately this was a tragedy that could have been avoided.
All funds will go towards purchasing clothing, food, phones, and work equipment for the brothers, as well as any other costs related to their resettlement. Money will be split between those affected

Money distributed!!
Alhamdullilah yesterday we distributed money to the 17 survivors of the fire. After pressure from the community the council agreed to house everyone in a budget hotel for the month of Ramadan.
The money you all raised has been a life line for these brothers. The fight for justice isn't over but thank you for the difference you have made.

Vigil for Mizanur bhai
Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed, what a beautiful show of support from the community.
Today we held a vigil in Whitechapel for Mizanur bhai who lost his life in the fire. He arrived in this country only last month and leaves behind 2 sons, a wife and a mother in Bangladesh. We heard from some of the survivors as well about their experiences
The council has agreed to temporarily house everyone for one week only. After that they will have to fend for themselves so your support will be invaluable. Jazakallah khair
