An urgent need for re-building our Masjid

Due to the constant threats of earthquakes, an engineering risk assessment have shown our Masjid is not safe. The Lower Hutt City Council has determined the masjid building is earthquake-prone. This means we must make our masjid building safe. 

For the last 4 years we have not been teaching children in that masjid. We hired a school hall for this purpose. The children are growing without being in the masjid. This is very sad situation, we must do something about it by building a safe masjid.

Earthquakes are a common occurrence in Wellington, and we cannot afford to delay these renovations any longer. Our community deserves a safe place to pray, learn, and grow, and we need your support to make this vision a reality.

A House of Allah, A Legacy for Generations

Wellington’s Muslim population is growing rapidly—by over 5% each year—and we are already a community of 6,594 Muslims in the Wellington region (Census 2023).

Our small Masjid in Lower Hutt currently serves 1,000 members, but it was built decades ago as a commercial building and was never designed to handle the size or the seismic risks we face today.

The Masjid has been serving us since 1997, when our numbers were only a few dozen. Al-humdulillah, our community has grown, and now our Masjid is full during Friday prayers and overflows during Ramadan.
