Goodness has its seasons, in which everyone gives their all to those who are in need, and the nation comes together in the times of distress. For the 11th year, we launch Ramadan campaign to support the most vulnerable families in Northern Syria, which suffer from the hardships of life. especially this year, when the holy month of Ramadan coincides with the catastrophe of the devastating earthquake.

The humanitarian situation in northwest Syria:

Circumstances of the blessed month of Ramadan this year are unfortunately worse than the previous ones for the displaced Syrians.  The population in northwestern Syria has been suffering of displacement and siege for 12 years due to the conflict, but Ramadan this year coincides with a catastrophe that the region has not witnessed for nearly a century; a strong earthquake has struck the area. 7.7 magnitude south of Turkey at 4:17 a.m. on February 6, 2023. This has been the strongest earthquake ever recorded in Turkey since 1939. It was followed by a second earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 at 13:24. Since then, the government of Turkey has issued a Level 4 alert, calling for international assistance.

Unfortunately, the earthquake greatly affected northwestern Syria, which is inhabited by about 4.5 million people (about 90% of whom depend on humanitarian aid to survive). The majority of the population of this region are women and children, of whom about 1.8 million people have been living in tents since Over 6 years old.

But, WE ARE TOGETHER!!

Let us be, as we used to, hand in hand with our people in northern Syria, providing aid and sharing goodness.

Since February 6th, Ghiras Al-Nahda’s team has not stopped helping under “We are together” campaign, by delivering food, securing shelter, and making sure that the voices of the affected are being heard, and we will continue helping those who are in need during the holy month or Ramadan! 

Zaid bin Khalid Al-Juhani (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "He who provides a fasting person something with which to break his fast, will earn the same reward as the one who was observing the fast, without diminishing in any way the reward of the latter."

Ghiras Al-Nahda's team will be implementing these activities in Northern Syria, under Ghiras Ramadan 11 campaign: 

Fasting iftar: 

Provide cooked meals for displaced people in camps and those who were affected. The meal is enough for the iftar of a family of 5 people, with a drink. The meal weighs around 2kg.

The meals we provide during the holy month of Ramadan:

Freekeh with chicken – Kasbah with chicken – Meat Mandi – Rice and peas – Mexican chicken with rice – Freekeh with meat. 

Cost: 8$ per family per day

Ramadan Basket: 
This activity targets people in camps and those affected by the earthquake with food baskets which integrated nutritional values with 1550 kilocalories (kcal) per person per day, according to the recommendations of the global food security sector in the United Nations. 
The baskets will be as follows:

1- Basic food basket: covers the Ramadan needs of a family of 5 people, on average, for one month, with a weight of approximately 58.5 kg.
Basket price:  $70
 

2- A ready-to-eat food basket (canned food basket): it suffices a family of 5 people, on average, for one month, with a weight of approximately 13.5 kg.
Basket price: $30

You can donate partially or the entire value of a basket.
Target: 1,000 families. $50,000.     
 

Zakat Al-Fitr: we deliver the needy families Zakat al-Fitr from donors all over the world, value based on each donor’s country of residence, while the value of Zakat in Turkey is 70 TL equals 4$. 

Restoration and Shelter:

In this activity, we aim to provide shelter for people whose houses were damaged by the earthquake, by restoring light and medium damages, such as doors, windows, and walls, taking into account the approval of the houseowner on the restoration process. 
cost: $800 approximate cost to renovate one house.
 

Eid Al-Fitr activities:  Joy of Eid

The joy of our children in northern Syria is complete with the new Eid clothes, so we aim to provide full Eid clothing for children in the camps, in the last week of the holy month of Ramadan.
Cloths include a shirt, pants, and shoes, taking into consideration the gender (boys and girls)
Cost: 25$ per child
 

Eid party
Eid days are the days of joy and happiness that children await throughout the year, so we aim to hold parties in orphanages and give Eid gifts and hold some activities for the children under the supervision of the child protection specialists from Ghiras Al-Nahda.
Cost: 10$ per child.
 

Pocket money:

It’s the favourite part of Eid for children, there is no better gift than giving a child an amount of money that brings happiness and joy to them, therefore, we aim to provide children with cash money during Eid days to fulfil their happiness.

Cost: 5$ per child.
