Imagine asking AI for a Qur’an verse to place in a presentation, to use in a khutbah or halaqa circle, to share with students, or your social media audience. Or in your own self-study.

The answer sounds great. 
Confident.
Convincing.
Deeply Quran “like”.

So you trust it and perhaps immediately share. 

Only later do you discover:

• part of the verse never existed
• the Arabic was incorrect
• two ayat were merged together
• the reference was false
• or the AI completely fabricated the quote

Now imagine your embarrassment.
Your regret.
After realizing that you unknowingly shared misinformation about the Words of Allah.

This is already happening.

More and more Muslims are now using AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini for Qur’an study, tafsir research, Islamic reminders, Arabic learning, khutbah preparation, and Islamic content creation — because these tools provide instant access to information, ideas, explanations, and study support, helping Muslims save time, think more clearly, and engage more deeply with Islamic learning.

But many of them do not realize that AI can at times:

• invent verses
• give wrong references
• mistranslate Arabic
• fabricate hadith
• confidently provide false Islamic information

To be clear, I am not suggesting that AI is intentionally attacking Islam or deliberately trying to corrupt the Qur’an.

The problem is the nature of these systems themselves.

AI systems are designed to predict language patterns based on enormous amounts of data. When they do not “know” something with certainty — especially exact Qur’anic wording, Arabic text, or highly specific Islamic references — they can sometimes “hallucinate,” meaning they generate information that sounds correct but is actually inaccurate or completely fabricated.

The danger is that AI responses often seem extremely confident, which makes these mistakes difficult for the average person to detect without verification.

Totally unacceptable. 

Because when it comes to the Words of Allah, accuracy is a must.

As Muslims, we cannot afford to become passive consumers of AI-generated Islamic information without verification, responsibility, and critical thinking.

So, as an AI literacy educator and author, I became deeply concerned about how quickly Muslims are turning to AI for Qur’an study without knowing how easily these tools can produce confident but incorrect answers. 

And instead of criticizing AI being used for Qur'annic study or advocating discontinuing its use, I decided to build a 

SOLUTION:

It also provides a quick, efficient review method that can be used to support safer, more responsible, and more carefully verified Qur’an-related study.

• how to use critical thinking in evaluating the information retrieved

Living in Madinah is Inspiration and a Blessing

A few months ago, on my first Umrah making tawaf around the Kaaba, I made a heartfelt dua:

“Ya Allah, let me return.”

Soon afterward, Allah opened the door for me to relocate to Madinah — the City of the Prophet ﷺ.

Living here, surrounded by Qur’an, worship, reflection, and sacred knowledge, has only deepened my conviction that Muslims urgently need thoughtful, spiritually grounded guidance for navigating AI. 

And has quickened my inspiration to develop AI tools to contribute my AI skills and creativity to this growing need.
