Who are we?

For nearly two decades, the Amal Center for Women has been more than just a space; it's been a lifeline. It's a place where women in our community, facing the isolating and terrifying reality of conjugal violence, find not just shelter, but hope. In 2024 alone, we've provided over 1,100 interventions – that's 1,100 individual stories, 1,100 times we've offered a listening ear, a helping hand, and a path towards a brighter future.

But these numbers represent so much more. They represent mothers, daughters, sisters, friends who have found themselves trapped in situations they never imagined. Behind those numbers are stories – stories of fear, pain, and, most importantly, unbreakable resilience.

"They were the only safe place for me," shares one woman who found refuge at the Amal Center. "They supported me and listened to me without judgment. They informed me of my choices and referred me to proper services, such as women’s shelters, when needed. They helped me turn my life around and end the cycle of violence in my family."

Our services

Our psychosocial, culturally-sensitive interventions are here to support you. We provide mental health services that consider your unique cultural background and beliefs. Our staff is trained to understand how race, ethnicity, religion, and other aspects of identity can affect your well-being. We understand that healing is not one-size-fits-all, and we are committed to providing care that is both effective and respectful. These services, made possible by your generosity, include:

• One-on-one psychosocial intervention: Providing a safe space for women to process their trauma and begin the healing journey. These sessions are crucial for helping women understand what they’ve experienced and develop coping mechanisms.
• Active listening: Offering a compassionate ear and a non-judgmental environment where women feel heard and understood. Sometimes, just knowing someone is truly listening can be the first step towards healing.
• Referrals to external partners: Connecting women with vital resources, including legal aid, housing assistance, and other critical support services. We work closely with other organizations to ensure our clients receive holistic care.
• Empowerment workshops: Equipping women with the tools and skills they need to feel empowered in their lives.
