SOS: Hospitals across Gujarat (India) are in a dire need for Oxygen supply.
Need: We have purchased 100 + oxygen concentrator devices from USA based vendors for charity run hospitals in Ahmedabad, India and surrounding areas.. These portable devices concentrate oxygen from Air and can funnel it to the COVID-19 patients. We will airlift them directly to India
More on the need below
Plan: We have already raised enough amount for the initial purchase of 50 devices. We have already delivered 20 devices to charity Hospital in Ahmedabad on April 27th. Our next step is to collect funds for the rest of 50 devices.
With this appeal, we want to widen the net and extend the support to more hospitals and clinics across Ahmedabad and nearby districts.
Our goal is to equip every GSWT run in-patient clinic and ambulance with a 10L mobile Oxygen concentrator during the month of May as peak cases are expected around mid-May. We will then focus on increasing the availability of Ventilators in the targeted areas in Ahmedabad and Surat.
More Details on the need:
Two days ago, We got a call from one of our associates about the severe and continuous need for oxygen and ventilators for one of the hospitals run by charity trust that we routinely support. This multi-specialty hospital managed by Gujarat Sarvajanik Welfare Trust provides healthcare to thousands of people every week. As per their account, they had resorted to going door to door in industrial areas to borrow liquid oxygen cylinders. They even trucked cylinders from the Alang Ship breaking yard.
With a tsunami of new and current cases and peak expected in next few weeks, we got down to brainstorming and decided that we could not rely solely on the supplies from government and have to focus on acquiring the O2 concentrators for the patients who are experiencing shortness of breath but are not needed to be intubated. Numbers of these patients are increasing by the minute.
More Details on the Plan:
Through the extensive network of our medical director Dr. Salim Saiyed , MD who oversees a large 8 + hospital system in Pennsylvania we have been able to secure a vendor based in Brooklyn, NYC for 100 oxygen concentrator devices at a significant discount.
The plan is to purchase and airlift them directly to Ahmedabad, India. Vast majority of severe cases are coming from the rural areas in this second wave. These areas even though only 100 or so kms away from the big cities but have very little or no healthcare delivery facilities. We will target these areas to perform testing and deliver treatment using the medical team that is in place.
Hospital stats
# inpatient hospital beds = 83 with mostly COVID
#NICU - 5, #PICU 2, #Pediatric 7
# of Doctors - 80
# of nursing , clinical and other staff- 200
# of clinic outpatient -120 + daily
-------- Our pledge --------
We are committed to deliver 100 Oxygen concentrators over next few weeks. We strongly believe that this will alleviate the pressure on the hospitals and equip them with much needed infrastructure to continue the fight against the COVID-19 in India. All of funds will directly to go towards purchase and air freight. We are USA based non profit, and your donations are USA Tax deductible.

Update on campaign progress
When we started this campaign little over 4 weeks ago, we could not have dreamt of the tsunami of support from our donors that we have received. When the kindness from the donors has strengthened our resolve, the willingness of our partners to go over and beyond the call of tasks & transactions at hand to help us succeed in our ambitious goals have us believe in humanity all over again.
With a small yet extremely talented and resourceful volunteer team, we were able to procure and deliver over $200,000 K worth of emergency equipment to Gujarat,India in a record time. Following is the summary of equipment that has already been shipped to various charitable hospitals that were (and in some cases still remain) in dire need for resources.
Oxygen Concentrators (5L and 10L) | 120 |
BiPAP Machines | 13 |
CU Ventilators | 15 |
Medical Grade High Capacity Voltage Converters | 100 |
Masks, Nasal Cannula, Tubing | 100 |
Ventilator Filters and Maintenance Kits | 15 |
As we reach one milestone after another, we feel it’s important to pause and look back on all that we have achieved together. We couldn't have done it without the community of supporters and partners that came together here and on our mirror campaign. Three consignments were already delivered and the fourth is enroute. Shifa hospital and team sprung into action as soon as deliveries were made to start utilizing equipment to save COVID patient lives.
It’d be an understatement to say we are grateful to each and everyone of you.
From the very beginning, we had set our sights higher. Our goal was not just to deliver a set number of oxygen concentrators but to provide relief with a multi-pronged effort. So far we have been able to do just that. Please follow our facebook page for all the images and patient stories as we update them.
It also meant that we have invested far more in these efforts than the funds that we’d raised. Even with a continuous stream of contributions, we remain in negative balance. 100% of funds have gone to procure and ship equipment.
We have commitments from two of our largest donors to match any new donations at 100%. We would like to request you to either make your donations public, share it on social media OR forward the fundraiser link to your friends and family who could contribute.
With gratitude

First shipment has arrived
WE HAVE LANDED @ Mumbai airport. We were able to successfully clear customs at airport, load the $97,000 consignment onto a truck & get on the road for a long journey to our charitable hospitals. This is nothing but a spectacular miracle all made possible due to prayers & support from our donors, team, & partners and network on the ground. The @saiyedfoundation and teams did this in record 12 days from SOS call, to start of fundraising, finding suppliers, finding and securing an airfreight cargo✈️ ( changed flights 2 times to get on earlier one), landed, cleared customers & loaded on a truck!!! All this during a pandemic, with limited vendor supply chains , limited flights & hours long wait at airport. We are grateful you are part of our team to save lives.
First, we want to say thank the folks on the ground who are helping the COVId patients. The teams that I have been working with at Gujarat Sarvajanik Welfare trust (Shifa) and other hospitals across Gujarat, are truly the most selfless and bravest souls you’d ever encounter. You can make money doing many things but in this time and day, waking up every day and and to decide to risk your own life to save others is truly commendable. We do not have enough words to express our gratitude for all they do and this includes not just the care delivery personnel but also the ward boys, admin staff and the security guards across the hospitals in India.
Without Saiyed foundations support we couldn’t have pulled this off. Saiyed foundation has a long track record of delivering free care through mobile clinics across Gujarat and Dr Saiyed’s steadfastness and refusal to take no for an answer moved mountains in these desperate times of need.
We have assembled a team of partners and volunteers that are working tirelessly 16 hour days. @Dr Aaisha and @Zaynah, in my 20+ years of professional life, I have rarely witnessed the level of team work that I have over last two weeks. I am humbled to say the least.
And finally, without you all this would not be possible. Please consider donating and supporting our next shipment we are preparing for.
2nd Purchase of Ventilators -Urgent appeal
Marhaba & Greetings,
India continues to break daily records with COVID-19 cases. Our hospitals are on ground are reporting dire situations without access to oxygen, medications, & other treatments.
A strong response has been activated from USA, but that has also caused a significant decline in inventory of oxygen supplies. Through our relationship with the largest, 41 hospital system we were able to secure an order for 15 Phillips BIPAP noninvasive ventilator. This machine forces air inside a patients lung for those who require high amounts of oxygen that cannot be provide by a simple nasal cannula cylinder. These will be used on ICU COVID 19 patients.
We are still off from my fundraising goal, so please share with your family, friends to help join this campaign.
Humbly,
We are making progress on 100 oxygen concentrators
|
50 Oxygen Concentrators purchased
We have been successful in finding a hospital wholesaler supplier within our network that has 100 oxygen concentrator devices ready in stock. We have been able to collect enough to purchase 50 devices. In the next 24-48 hours we really need 22,000 to complete the purchase of next lot. Please note- All funds are for purchase of devices and air lifted via plane directly to India shortly. The team is run by volunteers based in USA.
