Expand the youth lounge 

Every year DAH serves over 7000 children around the DMV community. We take pride in taking a positive approach to serving young people. To achieve our mission -our goal-  we have developed programs that cover one or more areas of positive development in our youth, young adults, and young professionals. Our program cultivates competence in our youth as they develop new skills and interests through arts and crafts, connection as they build relationships with their classmates and instructors, caring and character building as they are given examples from the life of our prophets and companions and set and respect boundaries discovered through interpersonal interactions. We also provide social event gatherings in which we bring in local scholars, students of knowledge, and content providers to cover various topics relevant to young adults and young professionals. It is also an opportunity for folks to socialize and get to know one another and network.

What do we need to continue the awesome work we do?

We need to collect $30,000.00 to expand and renovate our youth lounge to hold the increasing number of youth that are participating in our program. Based on the previous years of our youth intake, we foresee an increase of 20% of youth joining our program next year. At DAH we want to provide a space for our youth to flourish and develop. 

Help us install our first elevators 

We are commanded by Allah and His messenger to protect the weak and vulnerable among us and not let our eyes wander away from them. Prophet Muhammad SAW gave the disabled people higher self-esteem and erased their sadness, misery, and lack of confidence. He always reminded them that “verily God does not look at your bodies nor to your faces but He looks at your heart.” 

Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center is dedicated to making sure that no one is left behind.

Among the most important segments of the DAH community are the children. We offer a wide range of enriching, engaging, and fun activities for over 7000 children each year. However, some of our children get left behind due to their physical disabilities, depriving them of the opportunities that their peers at Dar Al-Hijrah enjoy. This year, we are seeking your contributions to begin installing elevators to allow all people with disabilities to access all events and activities at any time. The construction of the elevators will give our children access to our new youth lounge. It is only through your generous donation that we are able to ensure that all youth are included in our programs and empowered to grow, thrive, and become righteous and influential leaders in society.

The Prophet’s humane gesture was a powerful demonstration of the principle of inclusion. It was a dramatic act of advocacy, in words and actions, and we must use that as an example to provide the best opportunities for the disabled in our community.
