Making up 43% of the agricultural labor force, women are responsible for nearly 90% of household food preparation. When women have the support and resources they need, they support their families, communities, and countries to grow.

Most Earn Less Than $3/Day. You Can Help!

More than 70% of landowners in Egypt are small-scale farmers, most of whom earn less than $3/day. Help small-scale women farmers in Egypt who have been struggling to make a living over the past few years due to the COVID-19 pandemic which has triggered a widespread crisis in the agricultural sector, and due to the the negative impact of climate change on their production capacity and livelihood.

Empowering independent women farmers and producers can improve food security and reduce hunger and poverty.

• Increase the income of small-scale farmers and laborers/farmers who don’t own farmland, through working in tomato cultivation and collection.
• Encourage and support the beneficiaries to adopt safer and more sustainable agricultural practices in urban and rural areas.
• Allow the small-scale farmers to have access to new markets and have direct contact with potential exporters without the intervention of intermediaries.

The goal of the Sun-dried tomato project is to improve the livelihood of 100 small-scale farmers and an additional 280 workers at the drying and sorting facilities, the majority of whom are women. The project aims to support the revitalization of tomato crops, supply chain continuity, and economic viability. This project will also address rural poverty and unemployment.

The proposed project will train the farmers on B/SAP, facilitate access to quality seeds and other inputs, strengthen collective capacity to interface with the market, and facilitate linkages to different market outlets, including value addition through sun-drying and concentrate.
