In 2005, when he was only 22 years old, Hamid Hayat was brought into the FBI for questioning after returning home from a family trip to Pakistan. He was accused - and ultimately wrongfully convicted - of attending a terrorist training camp while in Pakistan. Fourteen years would pass before this innocent man would be set free and finally be able to return to his family and community. 

Both Hamid and his family paid a steep price for the years of separation, trial, and incarceration. The Hayats lost their family home. Hamid's parents' health suffered. And Hamid lost 14 years of his life locked up in prison – wrongly convicted as a terrorist - with only his integrity and faith to sustain him. 

Now, at 39, he is working to rebuild his life. One of Hamid's priorities is to get a college education. This fundraiser is an opportunity for our community to show our support and help him begin a new chapter in his life.
