Assalamu Alaykum Brothers and Sisters, 

The Mauritania Foundation is undertaking an urgent appeal for the collection of funds to support Darassalaam School with a water sanitation project, general supplies for the school, and the teacher's salaries.

Our goal is to gather $35,000 to pay for:

1. Water Sanitation Project
2. Food, Supplies, and Utilities
3. Teacher's Salaries

Water Sanitation Project

In addition to covering the normal overhead costs of running the school, we are seeking to raise funds for a crucial water sanitation project. This initiative involves modifying our existing water tanks into a closed system to protect the water supply from external contamination. By ensuring cleaner and safer water, we aim to improve the health and well-being of our students and teachers. This project is essential for maintaining a safe learning environment and fostering long-term resilience in our school community.

Priority of Knowledge and Supporting the Students

رَسُول اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ

 ‏ مَنْ سَلَكَ طَرِيقًا يَطْلُبُ فِيهِ عِلْمًا سَلَكَ اللَّهُ بِهِ طَرِيقًا مِنْ طُرُقِ الْجَنَّةِ وَإِنَّ الْمَلاَئِكَةَ لَتَضَعُ أَجْنِحَتَهَا رِضًا لِطَالِبِ الْعِلْمِ وَإِنَّ الْعَالِمَ لَيَسْتَغْفِرُ لَهُ مَنْ فِي السَّمَوَاتِ وَمَنْ فِي الأَرْضِ وَالْحِيتَانُ فِي جَوْفِ الْمَاءِ وَإِنَّ فَضْلَ الْعَالِمِ عَلَى الْعَابِدِ كَفَضْلِ الْقَمَرِ لَيْلَةَ الْبَدْرِ عَلَى سَائِرِ الْكَوَاكِبِ وَإِنَّ الْعُلَمَاءَ وَرَثَةُ الأَنْبِيَاءِ وَإِنَّ الأَنْبِيَاءَ لَمْ يُوَرِّثُوا دِينَارًا وَلاَ دِرْهَمًا وَرَّثُوا الْعِلْمَ فَمَنْ أَخَذَهُ أَخَذَ بِحَظٍّ وَافِرٍ

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 

If anyone travels on a road in search of knowledge, Allah will cause him to travel on one of the roads of Paradise. The angels will lower their wings in their great pleasure with one who seeks knowledge, the inhabitants of the heavens and the Earth and the fish in the deep waters will ask forgiveness for the learned man. The superiority of the learned man over the devout worshipper is like that of the moon, on the night when it is full, over the rest of the stars. The learned are the heirs of the Prophets, and the Prophets leave neither dinar nor dirham, leaving only knowledge, and he who takes it takes an abundant portion.

أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ ‏

 ‏ الدُّنْيَا مَلْعُونَةٌ مَلْعُونٌ مَا فِيهَا إِلاَّ ذِكْرَ اللَّهِ وَمَا وَالاَهُ أَوْ عَالِمًا أَوْ مُتَعَلِّمًا

Abu Hurairah said:

“I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying: ‘This world is cursed and what is in it is cursed, except the remembrance of Allah and what is conducive to that, or one who has knowledge or who acquires knowledge.’”

‎قالت ام المؤمنين عائشة رضى الله تعلى عنها لو كانت لى صدقة وطالب العلم بالمغرب لبعثت بها اليه

A’isha, the mother of the believers, may Allah be pleased with her, said, “If I had sadaqa and a student of knowledge in the furthest western Muslim lands, I would have sent it to him.”

About the School:

Dar us Salaam Academy is a traditional madrasa situated in the east of Mauritania close to the city of Kiffa. It is built on the ground that much of the distortion of Islam seen today is due to the abandonment of the traditional model of education. It is one of the few schools left in the world that preserves the traditional and holistic style of orthodox Sunni Islamic education.

The curriculum encompasses the study of texts only understood through rigorous interpretations from highly qualified scholars which are passed down through unbroken chains of narration (isnad). Students at Dar us Salaam — through rote memorization supplemented by explanation from a trained and qualified teacher – study:

• Aqeeda (Islamic Belief),
• Maliki Fiqh (Islamic Law),
• Seerah (Biography of the Prophet ﷺ),
• Quran (Both the memorization and the rasm) ,
• Tasawwuf (purification of the heart),
• Logic and Grammar, and more.
