As the blessed month of Ramadan is here, Mauritania Foundation is undertaking an urgent appeal for the collection of funds to enable the immediate distribution of the basic necessities such as food, water, clothing, shelter, and medicine to the people of Mauritania.

To continue supporting the students of Dar Us Salaam, repairing the masjid and student dormitories, and providing poverty alleviation. 

Teach - Support the Students of Knowledge

120 students - $400 per student supports an entire year of expenses

Dar us Salaam Academy is one of the few schools left in the world preserving a traditional and holistic model of orthodox Sunni Islamic education.  It stands on the principle that much of the perversion of Islam seen today is due to the abandonment of this traditional model, in which texts were understood through the rigorous interpretations of highly qualified scholars and passed down through unbroken chains of narration (isnad).

Students at Dar us Salaam—through rote memorization supplemented by explanation from a trained and qualified teacher—study Aqeeda (Islamic Belief), Maliki Fiqh (Islamic Law), Seerah (Biography of the Prophet - peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), Quran, Tasawwuf (purification of the heart), as well as other Islamic Sciences, including Logic and Grammar.

Dar us Salaam Academy has about 120 full time students year round. The cost of supporting 1 student is $400 per year which includes food, housing, any medical needs, and more. We are looking to raise a total of $48,000 to support every single student at Dar us Salaam Academy. Lifting the financial burden off the students of knowledge would free them completely to study our religion and help preserve the deen.

$20,000 to support the poor and needy

Mauritania is known to be amongst the poorest countries in Africa. The Mauritanian people are constantly faced with drought and famine. As such, the Mauritania Foundation regularly seeks to support the impoverished and needy. We are seeking to raise $20,000 to support those in need.

Shelter - Provide Shelter for the Students of Knowledge and the Poor

$20,000 to Repair Student Rooms and Provide Housing for those in Need

We are looking to repair the student dormitory buildings the students currently live in and build one new dormitory for the students. We are also looking to provide allevement for the poor that live in the area that do not have proper shelter. We have previously raised about $8,000 for the student dormitories and need another $8,000 to complete the project. In addition, we are looking to raise at least $20,000 to provide shelter for those in need.

Where Your Money Goes

100% of funds raised through this Initiative will go towards the facilitation of food, improving and building new infrastructure, repairing and building new water wells and the purchasing of medical supplies throughout Mauritania as well as for educational purposes with regards to Dar us Salaam.

 All zakat funds will be exclusively given to the poor and needy.
