The Issue

There are so many people who have reached out in the last few weeks looking for support and assistance that are also trying to figure out how they will observe Ramadan. Elders who need to make rent, agencies looking for foster parents for children recently orphaned due to COVID-19, survivors who are alone and have contracted illness themselves, and so many more. Low-income families who were already in need of assistance before the pandemic and as a result of it have lost that much more. This Ramadan has to be about each one of us seeing how we are all connected and stepping up to help others in their moment of need. 

Our hope is to provide monetary relief to individuals and families who are struggling to cover basic living costs at this time, regardless of their background. Especially leading into Ramadan, we want to get funds into the hands of those who need it most. 

Please join us in ensuring that no one is left behind this Ramadan. All contributions are zakat-eligible and tax-deductible. In addition to your general zakat, you can also give your zakat al-fitr for Ramadan ($15/person in your family) towards this cause. We are also working out a mechanism to have khums given towards it and will keep you all updated.

The Project

The Islamic Center at NYU, Penny Appeal USA , I.M.A.M. - The Imam Mahdi Association of Marjaeya, and The Zakat Fund of NYC are partnering up and seeking to raise funds from now through the month of Ramadan to help individuals and families facing financial hardship. 

HOW TO APPLY FOR FUNDS 

We are inviting those in need of financial assistance to apply for our NYC Ramadan Relief Fund at https://zakatfundofnyc.org/nyc-ramadan-relief. Successful applicants will be awarded a grant in a week's time of submitting an application. Please do share the link to apply with those who are in need and remind them that only applications completed in full will be given consideration.  

Why it Matters 

Moments like these demonstrate our willingness to help others in their time of need. Our city and those who are in it need our support so join us in doing what you can. Anything you give will go towards bringing ease and relief to so many people's lives. Anything you give will show people that they are loved and you will always have a special place in their hearts and prayers for being their in a moment of difficulty.
