Goodbye Watering Cans, Hello Aquabean: A campaign to upgrade toilets in our mosques

Most Sacred Place, Yet Most Neglected Toilets

  • Sometimes good ideas come from toilets of a mosque...Really !
  • This idea was conceived when my 7 years old son said " I am not going to use lota in the masjid"

  •  Later he explained " the handle is too wide for me to hold well and my arms are not long enough to point spout in the right direction". Subsequently, we thought of making our cleanliness experience (istinjah) more user friendly

Buy One, Donate One to a Mosque

We are trying to replace existing makeshift water vessels in toilets with more user-friendly aquabeans. If we don't strive to improve, then who will?

Buy any one product below, and we will donate plastic bean to a mosque

Our aim is to donate aquabeans to mosques in the following five states.

  • Maryland
  • Virginia
  • New Jersey
  • Delaware
  • Washington DC

The photographs below show toilets of three different mosques:

 What is Aquabean?

It's not grandpa's old istinja vessel!

  • Aquabean is a portable, lightweight vessel that will provide solution for using water in the toilet to clean after urination and/or defecation. We designed a contemporary, sleek, and user-friendly model that will compliment modern-day bathroom.

Visit our website for more details at www.aquabean.com

 The Impact

  • Aquabeans will improve our cleanliness experience in mosques' toilets
  • Its user-friendly design will be easy for kids to maneuver
  • Everyone can relate to one name regardless of varied ethnic background

Our Story

Our story starts where most stories end. We are a team of three professionals who did not go to college thinking we will ever work on re-designing lota. In fact our safe careers gave us everything we thought we wanted but somehow ceased our ability to achieve something bigger than ourselves. In turn, we decided to utilize our knowledge, risk-taking behavior, and perseverance towards venturing into social entrepreneurship.

We observed that many people are using watering cans, empty soda bottle, or compromised lotas to cater to all istinja needs. Everything seemed dated and boring. Thus Aquabean was born.

Our project on LaunchGood is an attempt to extend this idea to our mosques, the cornerstone of our spiritual life.

This concludes our story – story of three individuals who care about personal hygiene, mosques, and environment. It has been an interesting journey on a road less traveled by.
