WHY BURAAQ?

Clean, inspirational, wholesome Entertainment for our next generation!

We are witnessing an age of unprecedented technological growth in which the visual medium is increasingly shaping societies and cultures across the globe. Whether we like it or not, in the last decade or two, Muslim lands and minds have been and continue to be bombarded with Western images, ideas, characters and secular philosophy. Whether it is mainstream news, entertainment, or education, we have been forced to accept the secular narrative. CNN, Hollywood, Time Magazine define for us the ideals one should aspire to. The results are obvious when one looks at how Muslim societies are evolving into carbon copies of their Western counterparts. In other words, the traffic is strictly one-way. Ask any kid in a Muslim village, and chances are he or she would know who Michael Jackson or Superman is.

In addition to this onslaught, the post 9/11 world has seen an alarming rise in anti-Islamic sentiments in the mainstream media. Hollywood has taken a lead in portraying Muslims as evil terrorists in most of their movies. Even comic books have jumped on the bandwagon, with rare exceptions. Where is our answer to this invasion? Where are the Muslim visionaries? Is Halaal food or Finance the only areas where Muslims need solutions? What about the entertainment industry? Are we providing clean, wholesome alternatives to our kids? or are we just asking them to shut off their TVs, computers, and Internet? Our kids carry Superman, Spiderman, Justin Bieber bags to schools, public or Islamic. Our kids and adults are forced to see Muslims as villains and savages, whether it's a movie coming out of Hollywood, or Bollywood. And by chance if they do have any "good Muslim" characters, they are shown to be essentially secular. Why are others defining what and who a Muslim is or should be? Where are the Muslim film makers? Muslim artists? Muslim media tycoons? Muslim families need entertainment alternatives for their children.

These are the questions that forced us to rediscover our artistic skills and to introduce "BURAAQ," the first Superhero who happens to be a practicing Muslim.

We want to provide our youth with a positive hero that they could look up and relate to. A superhero who is confident and firm in his identity and roots! Content that will entertain and inspire. Unplugging the TV and internet is not the answer. People are are still lining up for the next blockbuster movies with their kids, not realizing the impact it will have on young minds. It's time to wake up and take the lead. Together, as an ummah, we can make a real difference, In sha Allah!

OUR GOAL

Our ultimate goal is to produce an action-packed, inspiration-filled, 3D animated feature film that is comparable to Disney and Pixar in quality and scope, In sha Allah. To make a global impact, we need to do it right! In this media battle for winning hearts and minds, the one thing that cannot be compromised is the quality of animation.  But that comes at a cost, and this is where you come in!

We need to hit certain milestones to achieve our final goal. You can help us reach these milestones and get rewards.

If we reach the $100,000 mark, we will also, In sha Allah, produce a 30 to 60 sec high quality 3D animated trailer for the movie. An exciting teaser.

The Movie

Logline:

Driven by a personal tragedy and quest for truth, a young man rediscovers his faith. He must now use his newly found powers and spiritual strength to battle a diabolical general from an unseen realm and stop his ghostly army from invading the Earth. Mankind will witness the dawn of a new superhero.

Yusuf Abdallah, born and raised in Arizona, is a regular American kid trying to survive the pressures of high school and teenage life! Son to an immigrant father and a revert American mother, Yusuf struggles to find a balance between a complex social life and the fulfillment of his parent's dreams! Overwhelmed by the glitter of this material world, he starts to drift away from his family and the Islamic values they so passionately espouse. Until one tragic day! He learns his parents are victims of a heinous hate crime! The parents that he had always taken for granted, were now gone forever. Devastated and guilt-stricken, he drives out into the rocky Arizona desert on a stormy night, questioning the very purpose of his existence, not knowing his life was about to take yet another drastic turn!

The transformation continues over the years and Yusuf discovers more gifts and powers! He is able to control magnetic and gravitational fields, allowing him to fly at amazing speeds! Along this journey, Yusuf re-discovers his Muslim identity and spiritual self! Finally realizing his mission on Earth! To serve humanity, to stand up for truth and Justice! Knowing well that the final return is to the Lord of the worlds.

Risk and Challenges

Like any projects, they have their risks. Our project is no different. We are bound by the same constraints of funds, resources and time. We have a solid plan and strategy, now it depends on delivery time. We don't know how many revisions it will take to get the pitch book and trailer just the way we want it. Here some of the potential risks:

• Delay in producing the new movie trailer [If Stretch Goal is reached]
• Delay in rewards distribution
