Café Rits needs your help to prepare meals and distribute food for Suhoor and Iftar. 

There are an estimated 60,000 Syrian refugees in Greece, waiting in limbo for Asylum. Refugees are placed at camps with substandard living conditions, including food. 

Ritsona camp currently has 800 residents, including families and children. Within the camp is a unique facility that has been providing nutritious supplemental food and drink to residents since March 2016: Cafe Rits. 

The success of Cafe Rits can continue with your help. It would not only alleviate many concerns that the refugees face daily, but make for a more stress free and enjoyable Ramadan. 

Café Rits supports local farmers and food manufacturers by supplying residents with fresh food. Our workforce is predominantly made up of Ritsona residents who are trained according to international standards of food preparation, service, and safety. This initiative recently received praise from UNHCR.

Our current activities include:

-Nutritious lunches provided to 100+ children attending Greek school five days a week (such lunches meet daily minimum for Sphere stand alone); 

-delivery of fresh proteins, condiments, legumes, produce into habitations 2-3 x per week; 

-community dinners 2-3 x per week; 

-children's parties and activities which emphasize hygiene; 

-festivals

-provision and distribution of kitchenware and supplies

The money you donate will go to purchasing food items and operational expenses. 

Ramadan is from May 26th to June 25th. We plan on providing food for iftar and suhoor. 

Operational expenses include transportation of food. 

*Suhoor and Iftar are the morning and evening meals during the month of fasting.
