My name is Hijab Sajid, and I have been selected to take part in the Muslim Youth Leadership Program hosted by the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR).

The Council of American–Islamic Relations (CAIR) is a Muslim civil rights and advocacy group. Each year the Sacramento chapter hosts a Muslim Youth Leadership Program which teaches high school students all about the media, law and government.

I have always been interested in the program, and this year, by the will of Allah, I was accepted. This upcoming semester will be my first year of college, so this is my last opportunity to attend MYLP. As part of our leadership training curriculum, we are required to raise $800 to help cover the costs of the program (transportation, hotel, etc.). I have raised $550 from a Biryani and ice cream sale I hosted, and need 250 to reach my goal. This program has always interested me since I was a child, seeing my fellow Muslims attend the program, and hearing their experiences motivated me. It is also a learning experience for me, as the major I am pursuing is Criminal Justice.

I hope to not only take what I learn, and  implement it in my major, but also in my community. As a Muslim American, I want to be able to educate others in my community about our system.
