Sanitation & Hygiene: Essential for Faith – Vital in a Pandemic

I have partnered with Helping Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD), an organization that gave me the opportunity to go overseas with them and serve humanity, in running a Ramadan campaign to provide brand new restrooms to the most vulnerable of populations. Rohingya Refugees, Syrian Refugees, and villages in East Africa, all places that have horrid sanitation conditions, need our help today. 

Imagine complaining about snakes and scorpions entering the restroom when you are about to use it. Imagine being a woman and having to take your daughter to use the restroom in the middle of the night. This is reality for millions of people today. Imagine having to share this "restroom" with 20-30 other families.

Today, 4.5 billion people live without safely managed sanitation and 892 million people still practice open defecation. HHRD started its Water and Sanitation Hygiene (WASH) program to respond to one of the growing causes of disease in the entire world, inadequate toilet use. 
HHRD has sponsored close to 1,000 restrooms in the last 2 years alone for these vulnerable families, making life easier for them, and one less worry for them to have. 

Most children smile when they receive a toy or candy, this one smiles because his family has just received a restroom.

To further the United Nations’ Sustainable Goal #6, HHRD’s Water and Sanitation Hygiene (WASH) program distributes soaps and hygiene kits, provides clean water, and delivers restrooms for those who lack access to these opportunities. This in turn helps combat the spread of water-borne diseases as children are taught hygiene skills and are given proper instructions on how they should keep themselves healthy.
