The Muslim Student Association at UC Davis is in need of a Chaplain to create a spiritually-cultivating environment for Muslim students. 

WHAT IS A CHAPLAIN AND WHY DO WE NEED ONE? 

A chaplain provides spiritual care through individual consultations, advising students and student leaders, and mental health care. Muslim students are in need of a friend, educator, and a mentor who is rooted in the Islamic tradition. Muslim students need constant source of spiritual upliftment in a secular, liberal college setting. Chaplaincy is a resource that produces and creates intellectuals, creatives, thinkers, and doers that will affect the university and wider community in an Islamically positive way. 

The Prophet ﷺ was the best of teachers, best of caregivers, best of advisors. This position is critical to fill the gap existing in the Muslim college communities. Through this service, the MSA hopes to cultivate a community rooted in the tradition – the Quran and the sunnah. 

TIMELINE OF THIS SERVICE? RECRUITMENT PROCESS? 

We hope to seek consultation from our local scholars in recruiting a chaplain insha Allah. The qualifications we look for in a chaplain are that they have studied Islam formally and traditionally and are qualified to transmit the knowledge on to whom they serve. We also are looking for someone with a background in mental health care and someone who can provide Islamic educational support in the form of weekly halaqas.

Once we have secured funds bi'idna Allah, we will begin the process of recruitment. 

The Prophet ﷺ said: "whoever traverses a path in seeking of knowledge, Allah will make easy for him a path to paradise" [Sahih Muslim].
