Campaign Introduction

Fellow Neighbors,

A quick introduction: My name is Fazlul Kabir, and I am seeking reelection for a third term as Council Member of the City of College Park, District 1. I live in North College Park with my wife and two children.

   Positions I've held: 

• Four-term Secretary of the North College Park Citizens Association (NCPCA).
• Director of Technology at a local software development company   
• Adjunct Professor at the  University of Maryland, College Park.
• Co-founder of the College Park Day event, 

   Events I've helped to organize/establish: 

• College Park Day , which has been in session since 2010
• Hollywood Farmers Market in north College Park. 
• Several Hollywood neighborhood cleanup events with 50+ volunteers for the past five years
• City’s first winter clothing drive, and snow shoveling projects
• Committee for Better Environment’s tree planting event

Why should you vote for me?   

• I have  provided quality services to residents: Whether it's an issue related to parking, loud noise, public safety or trash collection, I have continued to stay close to the residents and promptly address their concerns. 

• I have worked with the city’s Aging-in-Place task force to explore ways helping senior residents remain in their own homes.

• I have improved pedestrian safety through the Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB's) along Rhode Island Avenue at the crossings near Hollywood Road. Also, I've advocated for the Rhode Island avenue streetscape project, the Hollywood facade improvement program and wider side walks on Route 1 in north College Park.

• I am a co-founder of the College Park Day event, where I've worked with community groups and local schools, and helped to manage the event’s website.
  

• I've led the effort by working with residents to establish the Hollywood Farmers Market in north College Park. The market has offered farm-fresh food, supported local farmers,  and has helped to revitalize the Hollywood commercial district.
  

           What will I do if elected?

• I will  continue my  effort to improve public safety by increasing police presence on the neighborhood street without a subsequent tax increase

.

•  I will continue to strengthen and enhance the Neighborhood Watch program.

• I will maintain my efforts to revitalize and beautify the Hollywood commercial district by working with the business owners through the  façade improvement grants. 

• I will  work hard to accelerate the design and construction of the Rhode Island Ave streetscape project

• I will keep my effort to have a community center in north College Park, especially for local seniors and youth.

• I will engage with local and state governments in the Route 1 development without losing sight of the neighborhood’s priorities and without sacrificing the residential nature of the neighborhood.

• I will work with the SHA to build ADA compliant wide sidewalks on both sides of Route 1 in north College Park.

The primary purpose of this page is to aid with contribution toward this campaign. It is important that I gather donation fees to cover expenses for campaigning ie. campaign signs, flyers, door hangers, transportation costs,etc

• Spread the Word!
  

This is the most crucial part of my campaign; without people to spread the word about this campaign, there wouldn't be a campaign to begin with. Please tell people about this cause, and share this link with them through email and social media (ie. Twitter, Facebook,etc.)

• Campaigning

Essentially, one of the most crucial times during the election period(s) are during the last couple of weeks. I will need volunteers to push towards the physical efforts of distributing brochures and door hangers to potential voters.

In order to be eligible to vote in this City election, you MUST be registered to vote with Prince George’s County at your current College Park address by 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2015. To check your registration status with the County, call the Prince George’s County Board of Elections at 301-341-4300, or visit Maryland Board of Elections. Voter Registration Forms are also available at any City building or any Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration office.
