This sustainable water project will help 5,220 villagers have access to clean water.

Ethiopia has a lot to offer

Ethiopia is a small country, but it has a lot to offer.  It's adventure for the wild type with its vast and beautiful land.  It's a canvas for the artistic type with its vibrant traditional hand-woven clothes.  It's home to the scientific type with the discovery of humanity's early beginnings being traced back to the deserts of Ethiopia.  And, of course, it gives the food loving type their fill with the irresistible spiciness of berbere and the accompanying sourdough-like sponge bread called injera.  There is something for everyone in Ethiopia, yet those who live there, primarily the children, go hungry and without a sustainable water source.

Water Project

With your generous donation of $25 or more, you will directly contribute to the building and installation of a 100,000 liter water storage well and rain catchment system. This system will supply clean sustainable water to more than 5,000 villagers in the Jabo village in Ethiopia. The total cost for this project is $11,000.

Personal connection to Ethiopia

My own son, whom my husband and I adopted ten years ago from Ethiopia, suffered through severe malnutrition, and this caused his growth to be stunted.  Since then he's been well fed, in our home, with all the food and water any young boy, or man now, could want.  But I'll never forget the first time I saw the photos of my son in the orphanage.  His body looked incredibly weak as he needed to lean against the wall in order to support his skinny frame.

A better life for Children in Ethiopia

I was overjoyed to see my son in person for the first time, but also incredibly heartbroken at his appearance.  No child should have to worry about where their next meal is coming from, or how they are going to find a clean sustainable source of water. Children should enjoy the pleasantries of going to school to learn, and playing outside with their friends.

My experience with Zam Zam in Rwanda

In October of 2019, I had the awe inspiring, if not sobering, opportunity to visit the beautiful country of Rwanda.  This is where the idea for water projects was first impressed upon the heart of the Zam Zam founder, Yusuf Nessary.  While in Rwanda, I visited many different villages in the span of two weeks.  It was heart breaking to witness the villages where there weren't any water projects installed, because the villagers spent hours collecting dirty water which they then had to carry in a 25-pound jerry can back to their village.  The children didn't have time to go to school, nor did they have the time or energy to just be a kid and play as kids should.

How Zam Zam Water projects make a positive impact

In contrast, the villages where Zam Zam had installed water projects flourished with life.  Children were given the opportunity to go to school, and they had the energy to play not only because they didn't have to carry around heavy jerry cans, but also because they were not dehydrated nor sick from drinking contaminated water.  One of the old jerry cans was even converted into a fun ride-on toy as a celebration.

Zam Zam is expanding their work to Ethiopia

Just recently, Zam Zam has expanded into the country of Ethiopia. Your charitable contribution will help support a water project in the Jabo village, which is located in the Munessa district in the Oromia region. Your donation will directly help:

  • cover the cost of the materials such as brick, piping, and water pump, for the rain catchment system.
  • labor costs for installation of a 100,000 liter underground cistern.
  • supply clean sustainable water to 5,220 villagers for decades.
  • complete by summer 2020.

You will make a difference!

It is my hope that your donation to this water project will help to prevent children from being malnourished, dehydrated, and labored into working for something as simple as a cup of water. Please consider donating because you will make a positive direct impact for the people of Ethiopia.  The water project promises to be the first of many water projects to come in Ethiopia.

Thank you!

Photos of the 2020 Ethiopia Water Project

I am happy to share with you photos we just recently received of the water project in Ethiopia that was completed last year. This has been a difficult journey because of COVID-19 and the civil unrest that Ethiopia is experiencing at this time. We thank you all again for your amazing support for this project which helped bring more than 26,000 gallons of clean water to more than 5,000 people. As a side note, the current sign is only temporary and will be replaced with a permanent sign which will include two special messages. We shall be in touch. ZamZamWater.org

The Jabo Village Ethiopia Water Project is 85% Complete!!

Jabo Village Ethiopia Water Project

Greetings Amazing Supporters!

All of us at Zam Zam would like to extend our thanks again for your support for helping the Jabo Village, Ethiopia Rain Catchment Water Project be such a success!

We are reaching out to you to give you an update on this project. As stated in our last update, this water project started construction in June. There were a few delays as the country of Ethiopia was restricting travel within the country and curfews were being implemented. These delays caused the project to halt for a few weeks, however Zam Zam is happy to inform that the Water Project is 85% complete, with the underground storage tank being 100% complete. The only two items needed for completion are the installation of the pipes, which bring the water from the rain catchment roof to the underground storage tank and the hand pump which helps to pump the water from the underground storage tank to the surface where the water can then be collected into small containers.

Zam Zam hopes that construction will be complete sometime in September, and with excellent timing, as this is when the rainy season begins. Once the water project is completed, you will be notified again with the happy news and photos of the completed project. Thank you again for your support.

Of course, with everything going on in the world, the construction of the project will be delayed for a couple of months. We've Reached Our February Goal!

I am excited to announce that we have reached our goal of 30% funds raised during the month of February. At this rate, the water project will be completely funded by the end of April. The project has already been approved by the local government in Ethiopia and therefore, the only thing holding them back are the funds needed to hire local workers and materials needed for building the water project. Thanks so much for your support!! Please remember to share with your friends and family so we can get the word out.
