During his lifetime, the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) repeatedly stressed the importance of caring for orphans, especially since he, himself, was born an orphan. Caring for orphans does not only mean financially, but it also encompasses all matters necessary to nurture them such as education. 

     Givelight Foundation, founded by Dian Alyan, seeks to do that by building homes for orphans worldwide and providing them the fundamental skills to become independent, successful adults. Recently, in the summer of 2018, Givelight opened a home, Maison De Lumiere, in Oujda, Morocco for 40 girls. As it is a newly established home, it lacks many resources such as a functioning library and a computer lab.

      Accordingly, Granada Islamic High School students, in partnership with Givelight Foundation, intend to establish an efficient library system and a comprehensive computer curriculum at Maison De Lumiere. By staying in the orphanage for two weeks, we aim to form long-lasting relationships with the girls and provide them with the skills necessary to navigate the twenty-first century.

 Functioning Library Needs: 

- Cataloging system to organize books

- iPad to use for checking out books

- Placards to label the library 

- Protective book covering 

Functioning Computer Lab Needs: 

- Arabic key stickers 

- USB drives 

* A donor has already purchased and will install the computers.

The following supplemental activities will provide a wholesome, enriching experience:

- Interactive halaqas 

- Art lessons

- Gardening

- Sports (i.e. yoga, soccer)

- Cooking

- Read aloud/ Storytime
