Join musician Narcy and photographer Ridwan Adhami to help bring attention, a human face and much needed financial support for refugees worldwide.

WE.WILL.BE.FREE

The people featured in this video are orphans, refugees and the forgotten. But they are mothers, fathers, sons and daughters first.

They are HUMAN.
There are many scars. But there are even more smiles.

We all want a place to call HOME.

After watching the video and hopefully feeling something, help make these people’s lives a little better by donating to support projects and programs in Syria, Yemen, Iraq, Somalia and so many more places that Islamic Relief USA does work.

FREE celebrates the people who the world labels as a threat without seeing their faces. Ridwan traveled with Islamic Relief USA as creative director for the last five years, documenting orphans, refugees and people displaced by war and natural disaster in 19 countries. Free is a timely call for disarmament and equality, in response to the public conversation around banning people from traveling freely to North America. A humanization of the people effected the most by policy and politics that we often forget in the conversation.

Artist Statement:

Musician Yassin “Narcy” Alsalman:

“Instead of making this video about us, the immigrant youth,we wanted to shed light on those that deserve the same chance we have. Ina time where we are bombarded with information and numbers, I wanted to find away to use my public space for others. Ridwan's project Scars and Smiles inspiredthis video and was a natural progression from our last collaboration."

Photographer/Film-maker Ridwan Adhami

“The goal was to take all the footage I had collected andpresent the people in those photos and videos in a simple human way – to havethe audience connect with people’s eyes, look into their lives and see theirhumanity. With all the hateful rhetoric and misinformation about refugees andpeople from marginalized places, I feel we have lost sight of what is important– the people most affected by all the chaos. We wanted to present all these people from all these places without pretense, just put their beauty on display so that maybe we can feel connected to them, maybe we can feel empathy for them, maybe we can realize that we are them.” Ridwan
