If you've landed on this page, you've probably seen our blog, used our app... Or you're just browsing Launchgood and our name caught your eye :P Well, if you've never heard of us, here's the short story. 

Have Halal, Will Travel (HHWT) is a Singapore based media tech startup offering resources and tools to help Muslim travellers plan their perfect trip. We've built a dedicated travel planner app for Muslim travellers and we need your help to bring more destinations and features to our app!

Mission: TripAdvisor for Muslim travellers

If you’ve travelled to a foreign country, you would be familiar with the amount of research needed to find halal eateries and prayer spaces, especially near places of interest. This is even more challenging in Muslim-minority countries such as Korea, where information is scarcely available. Being travellers ourselves, we understand how difficult and time consuming trip planning is, when information is scattered across many sources and the accuracy of information is questionable.

We started with a digital publication featuring halal local food and travel guides. We wanted travellers to experience the best of each destination and provided trustworthy and accurate information all in one place.

But as we progressed we realized that the best way to help Muslim travellers, is to centralize the best things to do, eat and places to pray in an app. We launched the HHWT travel planner app in March covering Seoul as our first destination.

We aspire to build a strong Muslim traveller community on the app where travellers can help each other by sharing their reviews, photos and experiences. In short, we’re creating a TripAdvisor for the Muslim travel community.

For many people, their first exposure to Islam is through the media. Unfortunately, all we see these days are violence and hatred. We believe that through travel, not only are we able broaden our horizons and understanding of the world, we’re also given the opportunity and responsibility to be ambassadors of peace. When we travel, we show the world that besides our faith, there’s a whole lot of similarities between us, and that in our differences lie many things to be learned from one another.

We’ve been working very hard to provide the best travel resources through our publication and travel planner app to make travelling an easier and richer experience for our fellow Muslim brothers and sisters. HHWT is all about inspiring more Muslims to travel and see the world. 

Your support matters

Everything we provide at HHWT is completely FREE and we don't ever intend to charge. Unfortunately, this also means that we don’t have the means to maintain the high cost that goes into creating and maintaining both the mobile app and our digital publication. HHWT is very much a labour of love for us and we need your support to continue providing these resources for the Muslim traveller community.

Here's what you're funding

Here's what we will do for the Muslim travel community with the funds raised:

1. Cover more destinations on the app
We have lots of requests to cover more destinations on the HHWT Travel Planner app. We hear you, and we really want to help! With your backing, we’ll be able to put more resources into improving our mobile app and adding more destinations. We are already working on Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok, so help us speed things up and bring even MORE destinations and features to the app! Your money will go to:

• Remunerating local Muslims to help with collecting all the information on halal eateries and prayer spaces in their country - trust us, it's A LOT of work!
• Paying our development team to continue working on the app

2. Exciting tours for Muslim travellers

We're also building a platform on our travel planning app to allow Muslim travellers to find the best tours (be it day tours or tour packages) where they can experience local culture and authentic local halal food! Think halal sushi making and even to learn the teachings of a samurai!

3. Help keep our servers running

We’ve been facing a lot of downtime recently as our basic server is just unable to handle the amount of traffic on our site! We want to ensure that HHWT is always up and running especially when you need us the most, so we need your help to maintain our own dedicated server. If we're able to support more traffic to our site and app it will also allow more Muslims around the world to get access to our content!

4. Building a traveller forum

We know you want to share your information with other Muslim travellers and that’s why we want to create a global community where you can contribute reviews and ideas to help fellow travellers. Your reviews can go a long way to helping other travellers!

5. Labour of Love

Everything is currently funded out of our own pockets and we have very limited resources. Trust us, we haven’t been travelling as much as you think we have :( Your contribution will allow us to continue what we’ve been doing and much more!

6. Support our amazing team of writers

And of course, you will also help support our team of freelance writers around the world, who have been contributing to both the publication and app. Without them, we would never have been able to write so many halal food and travel guides.

Meet the HHWT team

It all started out when we were on an exchange programme in Seoul when there weren’t many halal food options available. Who wants to have seafood or vegetables every day for months on end right? That’s when we realized that there is a need for a consolidated space where Muslim travellers (and their friends!) would be able to seek out information about what to see and do, especially in countries where halal food is hard to find. And tada, that’s how Have Halal, Will Travel was born!
