The IQRA Children's Education Center and Quran Memorization Center and orphanage is a dynamic non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening,enhancing enriching students interest in science education in general and QURAN in particular. The school is making a difference for students, for schools and the Muslim community in Uganda who are desperate for workers with skills and strong backgrounds in science and the arts.

EARLY HISTORY

In early 2009, Sheikh Faisal Ddungu witnessed hundreds of children in Uganda with inadequate educational and living facilities. Rampant child labor and lack of economic opportunities left many children in Uganda living in appalling conditions. This was particularly true of orphans and children with deceased parents. Sheikh Faisal soon discovered that there was no provision for educating these children and decided to launch an appeal to raise funds to improve the lives of these children. Faisal succeeded in raising enough money to build a school and an orphanage in 2010. After an initial appeal, Faisal's inspirational idea was slowly becoming a reality. By 2016 the school grew from one with 12 pupils to one with 88 pupils aged from 4 to 14 years, from two teachers to seven and from two orphans to 33. There are plans to include adult literacy classes, a computer lab, and a free clinic on the premises. The school has succeeded in educated dozens of students since then with over 45 children succeeding in becoming Hafiz (memorizing Quran).In addition to providing a safe space for living, the Quran school and orphanage of Kampala provides:

GOALS OF THE SCHOOL

*Inspire lifelong engagement in Quran at a critical time in young students’ lives.

*Encourage students to ask questions, think critically and become problem-solving individuals.

*Provide interactive, hands-on learning opportunities that extend and enhance the traditional elementary school curriculum.

*Create a safe environment for expanding young students’ comfort with and mastery of the natural world around them

HOW YOU CAN HELP

The needs are always changing and are always many. Our latest building project is a new building designed to house over 50 students and orphans. The building, which is approved by the Ugandan Board of Education, will cost over $30,000. There are plans to include adult literacy classes, a computer lab, and a free clinic on the premises. This will include the cost of construction, building materials, beds, desks, chairs, dining hall equipment, and other supplies. After this building is built, another building “The IQRA Clinic” will be quickly under way and provide free healthcare to thousands of people in Uganda.
