Project Dignity is a local Michigan non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of the most vulnerable in society, especially the homeless. It was founded by Nahid Ayoub, and diligently ensures every dollar raised goes straight to the cause it's supporting.

Nahid came across this story on Fox2News Detroit and couldn't bear to stand by. This is her effort to help one man and his five children find dignity in their lives.

"I never thought this would happen to myself anyway but what bothers me the most is that they ( his kids) have to endure it as well, luckily they’re small enough they probably won’t remember it. Joseph Cantu is homeless, after his wife left him and their five children, they were forced to move out of their home last month. To accommodate sleeping array, the father has orchestrated hodge of temporary solutions.There have been several nights we stayed inside this van. We pull inside a rest area sometimes to sleep, Cantu said, and there several nights that some people will donate money here and there so we can sleep in a motel room. The woes don't stop here for Cantu however. Until recently, the father was employed. But without someone to watch his kids, of which only two are back in school, he lost his job. Now he gets questioned from his kids wondering when they can go home. But home has become an increasingly difficult idea for the family. The natural placeholder solution for the family would be a shelter. But there poses another problem. We’re waiting on placement through a shelter, but unfortunately here in southeast Michigan, there are not many shelters for men with children."
