Sister Maryam was tragically killed and her death has been ruled as a homicide. Now her family needs help to win the custody battle for her two young sons.

Campaign Update

Salaam Dear Community!
Thank you so much for the support and care you have shown for this family in their time of need.

We started this campaign in honor of Maryam and to ensure that her sons were safe and cared for. Due to the sudden nature and lack of details around her passing, the boys were placed in emergency care with CPS. Maryam’s family wanted to make sure that they were placed in a safe and nurturing home environment and therefore needed to raise the necessary funds for a custody case.

However, as stated on the LaunchGood page, Maryam’s case is ongoing and new details have recently come to light. An arrest has been made and the boys have now been placed with their father by Child Protection Services. An emergency custody case is not needed at this time. As the premise of this fundraiser has changed, we feel that it is important for us to update all of our donors and to refund all donations for this campaign.

As a close friend of our beloved Maryam Ali and a staff member with ICNA Relief for Justice, I am here to answer any questions or requests you may have regarding this campaign. Please feel free to reach out and thank you again for all of your generosity and support.

On Monday June 22nd, our beloved Sister Maryam Ali Mohammaed Al Jaberi passed away, this tragic loss has been ruled as homicide. Maryam was sadly a victim of domestic abuse leading her to have an unstable living situation. She was found murdered in the basement of the home she rented alone. Maryam leaves behind her 2 young children, her family, and a community reeling from this horrific tragedy. Maryam's main priority has always been the well being of her kids. Now her family needs your help to provide Abdallah and Ali with a safe and loving home.

Due to their turbulent and potentially dangerous home life, her sons are currently in the care of Child Protective Services (CPS) and have a very uncertain future.

Added by LaunchGood's team:

Thoraia Hussein from ICNA Council for Social Justice who knew Maryam Ali, is working with local authorities to find a safe home for Maryam's children. She can be contacted through email at thussien@icnacsj.org. She is working with Maryam's sister Nafisa and niece Fatma who live in Ohio to file for emergency custody. Your donations will go directly to pay for the legal fees of filing this emergency custody and if any proceedings follow that. More details will be added as they become available.

May Allah make this easy on Maryam's son, her family and grant her Jannat Al Firdous.

Fatima (Maryam's niece), Nafisa (Maryam's sister) and Thoraia Hussein are organizing this campaign. All funds raised will be collected in Nafisa's personal account. We would like to add that the criminal investigation is still ongoing and no arrests or charges have been made yet.

Campaign Goal Met! Thank YOU so much.

Salaam Dear Community!

It truly is a blessing to see so much support for a family who is very much in need, and I ask Allah swt to bless you all for your care and support.

We have surpassed our goal and collected enough funds to pursue the necessary legal steps to achieve justice and care for the family. We will be closing the campaign for now, and based on any further developments, if the need arises we will start a new campaign depending on the need and legal advice of parties involved.

My name is is Thoraia, and as a close friend of our beloved Maryam Ali, & a staff member with ICNA Council for Social Justice, I am here to answer any questions or requests you may have regarding this campaign. It is my duty and mission to bring light to the ongoing issue of domestic violence and abuse, and together I am sure we can do this!
