If not us to help refugee children get basic education, then who?

HELP REFUGEE KIDS GET EDUCATION!

Our mission is to help Achievers Academy (formerly known as Pandawas) to continue providing education to refugee children in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Somalia and Palestine, and THEY NEED YOUR HELP! This your time to help make a dent in the lives of refugees, so what are you waiting for?

THE EVENT AND STORY OF ACHIEVERS ACADEMY

We, the United States East Coast Presidential Council (U.S EPIC) and Rutgers University Malaysian Student Association (RUMySA), are organizing a fundraising event for the Achievers Academy, a private school providing education to refugee kids in Malaysia. Our fundraising event, RUMySA x EPIC: The Batik Workshop, is hosted by RUMySA and officiated by the Consulate General of Malaysia, New York, Mr. Jeremiah Oliver Jitos, as the ambassador of the program. The “Batik Workshop” provides a platform for participants to be introduced to “Batik”, a traditional Malaysian craft by the RUMySA community while donating to the Achievers Academy. Participants will learn to create Batik crafts, through the use of household items and have them display their own self-made Batik crafts. This event, hosted by RUMySA, is participated by Malaysian students studying in the USA across the East Coast region. 100% of your donations will be contributed to the Achievers Academy in the efforts to support providing education to the refugee children.

The Story of Achiever’s Academy

Below is an excerpt from Jeanette Chan, Director of Achiever’s Academy:

In September 2013 I joined Pandawas Academy (former name of Achievers Academy) with Robert Levitt and Jessica Wee as directors of the academy. The academy was started as a school for refugees from Pakistan & Afghanistan who are staying or located in Ampang.
In December 2015, Robert Levitt informed that he wanted to close the school being unable to continue to provide the funding for the school. I was to stay back to see to the closure. However, another American businessman who happened to be a key volunteer in the school promised to continue funding the school to keep it going as it was a great work among the needy refugees. The refugees are unable to go anywhere else to study and learn English, Maths or Science. Their only hope was schools like ours, set up to cater to their needs and completely funded via the generosity of donors.
We then decided to carry on based on his promise but he had to back out as he could not secure the funding needed. Again the dilemma arose for us – closure not only means closing the door for the refugee children to gain a better life via education, but also to cut off a source of income for our refugee teachers.

I then made a decision to take over the school and renamed it “Achievers Academy”. We are appealing for financial sponsorship to keep the academy going, to ensure quality education for the 100 odd students registered with us and to support the full-time teachers (refugees themselves) who are employed with the academy.
