Muslims for Change 

We are Muslims for Change (MFC). In the June 2017 UK General Election, we want the voices of British Muslims to be heard and their vision of a strong, stable, open, and prosperous Britain for all to be seen by those who will hold office.

We are seeking to raise funds for candidates that support our vision. 

Muslims for Change (MFC) is harnessing the capacity of Britain's Muslim communities to produce positive change during the 2017 UK General Election. We are crowdfunding to support the political campaigns of candidates for elected office who present bold and inclusive visions for Britain’s future. Through the resources of Britain’s Muslim communities, we will make a positive impact on the electoral process, ensure that Muslim concerns are heard during the coming elections and that we produce a British government dedicated to stability and prosperity, not just for a select few, but for all.

MFC is a non-partisan campaign created, led and funded by British Muslims through Forum for Change, a not-for-profit institution dedicated to building bridges between faith communities. Through Forum for Change, MFC will assign donations to candidates from any political party whose track record fulfills the criteria set out above.

We will take care to ensure that donated funds will reach those candidates who best reflect these criteria, and follow-up with the candidates to ensure continued visibility and support for these issues.

What are we doing? 

We are crowdfunding to donate across party lines to political candidates who stand for an inclusive, generous and fair British democracy, based on their past track record on the following issues:

• Address rising anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant sentiment. We will direct our resources to aid candidates who have taken bold public stands against Islamophobia and xenophobia.

• Stand up for minority rights, including opposing any attempt to undermine the rights of Muslims and other religious minorities to live their faith freely and lawfully.

• Show a genuine commitment to socio-economic reforms that support positive integration and social mobility for Britain’s most disadvantaged white and ethnic minority communities, among whom Muslims are disproportionately represented.

• Stand up to the misreporting of minorities in the media by supporting the implementation of the relevant Leveson inquiry recommendations. We must recognize discrimination against all minority groups as a breach of standards.

• Support an independent review of Prevent to strengthen Britain's approach to counter-extremism, in line with the request of the former independent reviewer of terrorism legislation David Anderson QC. We must ensure that Muslim communities are partners in any approach to extremism.

How will the funds be distributed? 

Muslims for Change will transparently distribute the funds collected to those candidates, regardless of party or affiliation, who have proven they will stand by these issues in office, and we will follow-up with candidates once they’re elected to ensure continued visibility around the issues we care about.  

This will allow MFC to report on how well-supported candidates do in promoting a more inclusive and democratic government.

We have lived through a season of surprising Islamophobia, anti-refugee sentiment and dismaying xenophobia, all of which make our country weak, disunited and unstable.

Muslims and minorities are talked about but rarely heard. Our rights, our freedoms and our concerns go unnoticed all too often. This is despite our active and productive contributions to society, and our immense talents and resources.

No longer.

Britain’s national interest is badly served when its minorities are dis-empowered. The stability and security of British society is at stake.

Muslims for Change are dedicated to a united Britain that serves all its citizens. British Muslims want a strong society that promotes pluralism, fair-mindedness, and basic decency. And we will demonstrate the strength and cohesion of British Muslim commitment to British democracy through the strategic deployment of our resources in the run-up to the 2017 General Election.

MFC will only support candidates, regardless of party or affiliation, who take a strong stand against anti-Muslim sentiment, who reject anti-immigrant rhetoric, and who support a vision of a tolerant, pluralistic and prosperous Britain for all. MFC looks forward to partnering with other communities and institutions who share similar objectives.

We will not back candidates on the basis of any personal characteristics other than their credible commitment to the positive changes we wish to see. And we will be transparent with you about which candidates have been supported through this effort.

How you can help

• Making a contribution — Any amount, no matter how small, makes a difference. Our communities have come a long way.But many challenges remain, and we cannot afford to go backward. 

• Signing up to help out — We need volunteers. If you can’t donate money, you can donate time to help make sure this campaign is a success, to ensure candidates hear our concerns, and to encourage candidates to adopt our pledges.

• Spreading the word — The more Muslims we engage, the greater the effect of our campaign. Let’s reward those candidates who stand up for genuine democracy by listening and responding proactively to our concerns.
