About Masjid Abu-Bakar Islamic Center

MasjidAbu-Bakar Islamic Center was founded in 1998 in response to the growing Muslimcommunity. Over 25,000 Muslims from all over the world now call the greaterPortland area their home and we are committed to meeting their needs. MasjidAbu-Bakar Islamic Center is a multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, diverse, and opencommunity committed to full and equal participation and involvement of allmembers of the masjid. Masjid Abu-Bakar is a non-profit tax-exempt organizationthat has been formed exclusively for educational, religious, and socialpurposes. The Construction of the New Masjid

With the growing Muslim population in the Northeast and Southeast area of Portland,Oregon the need for a bigger masjid to accommodate our growing community is urgently needed. The current building which the community has been renting for the past ten plus years is not sufficient to accommodate the needs of our community. The building is very small to accommodate both brothers and sisters that we were forced to pitch a tent besides the masjid to accommodate both brothers and sisters for Friday Prayers and for Taraweeh and Tahajjud Prayers during the blessed month of Ramadan.

Alhamdulillah,with the grace of Allah, our community purchased a land and raised nearly$200,000 dollars for the construction of the new masjid. The construction of the new masjid will cost $750,000 dollars, and the building will accommodate more than 300 worshipers. Insha’Allah, the building will also have classrooms for the school and a multi-purpose hall for many of the community functions that our community urgently need of.
