Salam, we hope this message finds you in the best of health. As many of you know the situation in Idlib has gotten worse. Since April 28, at least 892 civilians were killed and over 1912 were wounded, almost half of the victims are children. At least 50 medical facilities were targeted and attacked, leaving hundreds of thousands with no access to medical care. 

Today is the last day to support  this campaign. Please give so we can continue to provide medical care to those who need it most!

The image below shows newborn babies being evacuated after an attack on the Iman Maternity hospital they were just born in, they were still in incubators. 

UOSSM has been working tirelessly to meet the needs of the newly displaced by operating more mobile clinics in areas of displacement and providing medical services to those who need it most. It is estimated that at least 750,000 were recently displaced, many with nowhere to go living under olive trees.

As you read this message the people in Idlib are suffering immensely. They are under attack...At least 160 have been killed and at least 600 were wounded. A large number of those casualties are women and children. As of today, 19 medical facilities were targeted and put out of service. According to our sources on the ground, the bombardment has forced over 350,000 to flee the violence. They have nowhere to turn so at least 20% of those displaced are living under the olive trees. They are deprived of food, water, basic sanitation and medical care. See video here.

We at UOSSM USA have launched an emergency fundraiser in light of the terrible chemical weapons attack that happened just days ago, over 100 were killed, including 25 children,  and over 750 were injured, many of those injured are in critical condition.

As we have seen these types of attacks over and over again, we start to feel helpless, like there is absolutely nothing we can do. I'm sure you have heard the latest news about the horrible turn of events in Aleppo. In the last week alone two medical facilities were targeted and completely destroyed by Syrian and Russian forces. Many of us have gotten to the point of despair and helplessness. Thank you so much for your support of an important campaign, which ended yesterday. With your generous donation, it will be feasible to support an important project, very much needed for the Syrians in Turkey.

This follow up email to you, as a valued donor, is to update you on how your support will be used to ensure transparency along with your consent.

To maximize the benefit of your donation in expanding UOSSM psycho-social services to the Syrian refugees in Turkey, as well as, addressing new urgent needs for the Syrians, it was brought to our attention yesterday by the Project Manger and International team at UOSSM Mental Health and Pyscho-social Support (MS-PSS) Division, that the following project is now of utmost importance at this moment, and that they are in desperate need to fund this project ASAP, due to the increasing daily number of Syrian refugees to Turkey. 

This will help the Syrians to have access to basic services and be well informed of what's available. The Project Manager of UOSSM MH-PSS Division asked me to thank you for your generous donation and support of the Syrian refugees in Turkey; helping them to have equal and comprehensive access to different social services in Gaziantep, with expanding it to others cities, like Reyhanli and others.

Per our Project Manager; According to the registered numbers and estimations, there are around 3 million Syrian refugees living in Turkey. They are doing their best to adapt to new lives here but it is not easy. There are many NGOs, INGOs, UN bodies, and governmental structures that have been helping them; however, setting in a new country where many do not speak the language is a huge challenge. In order to help Syrians, adjust to life in Turkey and guide them in the system, UOSSM (Union of Medical Care and Relief Organizations) has decided to take an initiative to create a phone application that includes all sorts of services available in the cities where Syrians live densely. Considering that Syrians actively use internet, especially for communication and get informed, it is thought to have a great impact on orienting Syrians in the system in which they feel disoriented and misinformed, and assist them to seek proper therapy and support. 

The project aims to meet the following objectives:

• Providing information about the different services available for Syrian refugees,
• Helping Syrians get oriented in Turkey,
• Creating a comprehensive up-to-date database for Syrians on legal, health, education, livelihoods, food, and social places,
• Improving Protection Environment,Helping existing organizations be known by larger communities,
• Community Education,
• Expanding the operation of Existing Community Centers.

This project will cost 4800 EURO, and will take approximately 12 weeks to be fully operational. Once it becomes operational, we will update you on this project, including the benefits associated with this initiative for the Syrian refugees in Turkey. 

This is our update based on current needs by the MH-PSS Division of UOSSM in Turkey. This will help the Syrian refugees to have access to better quality programs and be well-informed of our mental health and psycho-social services and other services in their area. 

Currently, only a small percentage of the refugees have access or are aware of the existence of such beneficial services. 

If you decided not to support this specific project, please let us know by Friday early pm. Otherwise, we will proceed to fund this project.

Thank you so much for your support of an important campaign. UOSSM USA has reached word from our international division that the Mental Health and Psychosocial Services Center in Reyhanli is in more need than the one in Gaziantep. As such, we have made the decision to redirect the funds towards the Reyhanli center.

Due to the nature of the program, the patients have also requested to remain anonymous; as such, our periodic updates will focus more on the actual program in the Reyhanli center than the patients and their journeys.

Making this decision was not an easy one. We hope you understand. If you are uncomfortable with this change and would like to opt out of supporting the center, please let us know.
