WHAT HAPPENED
On Saturday, May 5th, Ms. Sonya King was attacked as she delivered food to a man's home for DoorDash. The man, described by his neighbors as a racist who regularly called black children in his area the n-word, suddenly declared himself to be "Jesus," grabbed Sonya by her hair scarf, and began strangling her. Sonya fought back, using her phone and her key ring to beat the man until he released her. The man, Rick Painter, has been arrested and charged with battery.
CAIR Georgia, which represents Ms. King, is calling on law enforcement to upgrade the charges to aggravated assault and false imprisonment.
WHY SHE NEEDS US
Sonya suffered cuts and injured her left hand during the attack, which requires her to take pain medication and muscle relaxers. Because her attacker was HIV-positive, she must also take anti-viral drugs. She has stopped working for DoorDash as a result of the incident, and she plans to pursue mental health counseling, leaving her husband as the only income earner in the household. She and her family need our financial assistance in this trying time. Let's help raise money to support Sonia King and her family.
