Building the Fourth Safe Home For Women

Insha'Allah, by first quarter of 2019, Nisa Homes aims to open its new location in Calgary, AB. It will be our 4th location in Canada. Our overall goal to launch the home is $60,000 and we will be raising funds in different steps. Our first step is to raise $10,000 to cover our setup cost. Like our three other homes, this home will provide women and children with a safe place to stay and help to get back on their feet as they overcome challenges such as domestic violence, resettlement, poverty and homelessness.

Why do we need a Nisa Homes in Calgary?

Our team has dealt with women in the community who were on the street or on the verge of becoming homeless. In addition, we have recorded accounts from community leaders receiving requests from women seeking safety or struggling with homelessness on a monthly basis. There is no facility that caters to Muslims specifically and the government funded shelters are over-crowded. Alberta Council on Women's Shelters noted that from 2016-2017, 22,000 women and children were denied shelter across Alberta because of overcapacity and 13,000 of them returned to their previous situation. Among these numbers are Muslim sisters and children who can utilize your support. At Nisa Homes we strive to empower women to rebuild their confidence and become self-sufficient. And to live in environments that are safe, healthy and nurturing. With your help, we can support our sisters. 

First and Only Transitional Home for Muslim Women and Children in Canada

Launched in 2015, Nisa Homes is the first group of transitional homes in Canada. Nisa Homes is for Muslim women and children who are fleeing domestic violence, those who are refugees, newcomers, or are experiencing homelessness. Our work has been featured in the Toronto Star, CBC Vancouver, CBC Windsor and The Link Canada. 

What is Nisa Homes?

1 in 5 women in Canada experience some form of abuse in an intimate relationship. The government provided shelters are often overcrowded and sometimes even unsafe, as a result, many women end up staying with their abuser out of desperation. Born out of this need, Nisa Homes is the first and only transitional home (temporary shelter) for Muslim women and children in Canada. We currently operate three homes across Canada; in Mississauga, ON, Windsor, ON and Surrey, BC. We provide a safe place and assistance for at least three months as these women overcome trauma and homelessness. Our goal is to support and empower women to regain the confidence, means, and ability to lead a successful, independent and self-sufficient life.
