Hello my name is Majeed Hettini, and my best friend's name is Rashed Jarrar, and we want to become proficient in understanding the Quran and the Arabic language together! We're raising funds to cover our tuition at Bayyinah Institute's Arabic Intensive Program.
We met at the young ages of 9 and 7 and have been best friends ever since. Together we have been active members of our Muslim Student Association (MSA) for over 6 years and we continue to strive for our ultimate goals in becoming closer to God. Alhamdulillah we have been working hard to achieve an opportunity like this for years, but have never had the chance to pursue these dreams until now. We have spent a majority of our time on worldly problems and now feel it is time to dedicate it towards Allah.
We have both graduated with degrees in Biomedical Engineering (Rashed) and Biological Sciences (Majeed) and would love to utilize our degrees, paired with a strong foundation in the religious sciences, to better understand Islam in its truest form. We have been heavily involved with the community, as well as fundraisers and events for Muslims. We feel that there is room for improvement, so we would like to take things a step further and push our studies and knowledge in Arabic to our very limits.
Leaving Home for Bayyinah Dream

We are both leaving our families in California, in hopes to pursue a deeper foundation in the Arabic language, at the Bayyinah Dream Program. If we can attain such a beautiful skill, we could better understand one of the most important things we have today, the Quran. The Quran is so essential to our growth and development and will enable us to understand its true meaning and then follow it. Any funds we receive are strictly for schooling and tuition costs. We've been doing our very best to save up and cover personal living expenses, but we still need help! We would like to reach out to all of our friends, family, brothers and sisters for help in fulfilling our dreams. The funds will allow us to also focus all of our energy and time into our studies instead of having to work. Bayyinah is an intensive 9-month Arabic program that takes place on their new campus in Euless, Texas.
What We Wish to Attain
Is there any reward for good other than good? Quran 55:60 We would all love to be proficient in our understanding of the Quran and bring back this priceless knowledge to our beloved community, but first we are seeking this knowledge to benefit ourselves and our future families.
He grants wisdom to whom He pleases, and whoever is granted wisdom, he indeed is given a great good and none but men of understanding mind.
(Surah Al Baqarah 2:269)
We have and will, inshAllah, continue to spread our peace by volunteering at the homeless shelters, Islamic Sunday school, university MSA events, fundraisers for refugees, Open House at the Mosque of Nasreen, advocating for equal rights, leading youth groups, and utilize our time and knowledge whenever the opportunity arises. Before we continue, however, we need to improve ourselves in order to become better assets and examples for Muslims and other interfaith communities.

While finishing up our degree at California Polytechnic University and through other various life experiences, we have come to conclusion there are challenges Muslim communities face. Unfortunately, we see many Muslims either becoming disconnected from their religion or they're being mislead because they can't make sense out of the vast pool of information that is available these days. We feel that attending Bayyinah's dream program will arm us against deviations and enable us to enrich the youth with our stronger foundation in Islam.
By attending the program we hope to understand how to spread Islam in a way anyone could understand and accept it. By first building a sturdy foundation with Arabic and then applying it towards the Quran, we can apply this factual knowledge of the Quran to ourselves and become true leaders of example.
Alhamdulillah we have been blessed with our local community and everything that it had to offer through Islamic seminars, conferences, and its Sunday school courses, but we feel it's time to take our studies to the next level. Almost a full year of Arabic courses, with an emphasis on the Quran, is exactly what we need to better connect with Allah SWT. Studying and understanding His words, we believe will not only benefit us personally, but also enrich our communities.
