Better Together 2015

Ramadan is a blessed month for Muslims, and yet not every Muslim lives to see the next Ramadan.

American University's United Muslim Relief Chapter is fundraising for our brothers and sisters that suffer globally from the lack of opportunities, healthcare, food, and water worldwide. Recognizing that even though we are able to break our fast, there are many more that cannot after the sunsets. 

Our work is inspired by Islamic principles and we believe that all people, regardless of race or religion should have access to clean water, to healthcare, to earn a sustainable livelihood and to have access to basic social services.

Quite simply, we offer a lifeline.

This Ramadan we are together for health, hunger, water, and our orphans. 

Donations & Rewards

Donations are considered towards zakat and sadaqah. 

Whether from a $1 donation to $1,000+ all donation are accepted! $5 & $20 donations are eligible for hand sanitizers  & t-shirts.  

$50, $75, $90, $200, $500 covers the costs for specific projects and donors will receive personal thank-you's from the chapter's team. 

All donations above $50 will receive personal thank-you's and based on availability and specifying when donating, will receive either a t-shirt, mug, and/or hand sanitizer.

Together for Health 

Through our Medical Goods-in-Kind Program, UMR provides hospitals and clinics with essential medicine, medical supplies and equipment. We work alongside fellow humanitarian NGOs to help them provide medical solutions at minimal costs. As well as working on short term medical interventions we also have a number of long term medical programs.

Whether it’s a cataract operation in Bangladesh to help an elderly man see again, or a maternal health clinic in Nigeria to provide a pregnant mother with the comfort and support that all our mothers deserve, your donation will help improve lives and potentially save them as well.

Together for Hunger

The United Nations Food
 and Agriculture Organization estimates that roughly 805 million people suffer from hunger around
the world.
That staggering statistic of nearly 1 in 9 people factors
in that 98% 
of the world’s undernourished live in the developing world.

In Ramadan, our food packs are designed to cater for large families. The packs are designed to last families for a month so that they, and their children, do not have to struggle for basic necessities during the blessed month.

The food packs, which cost $90 per family, are designed to feed an average family of 7 for up to 30 days.

Together for Water

At UMR, we are guided by the belief that water is the fundamental basis of life. Donations that are specified to go towards building wells will get a personalized completion report within 8 months of your donation. Once the well is complete, you will receive a report from us which includes the location of the well as well as photographs of the well and a personalized plaque.

Together for Orphans 

It is estimated that 153 million children worldwide, ranging from infants to teenagers, have lost one or both parents. The number of young children being orphaned is increasing: families torn apart through war, poverty, hunger and disease. Exploitation and abuse are rife. The world sees the problem in its vastness. We see millions of individuals each being denied a future with opportunities.

Through generous donations we sponsor hundreds of orphans around the world. Donations pay for food, clothing, education and medicine for vulnerable children living in countries such as Somalia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Kenya, Gambia, Iraq, India, Kashmir, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.
