Anyone who knew Sawsan Arafat knows that she was one of the most selfless people you could've come across. Her laughter filled every room she entered. She was full of laughter and comfort. Last Ramadan, the world lost this angel to Covid19.
Gamal Arafat was a humble man who was modest in all ways. He did not speak often, but when he did, it would usually be as a lighthearted comedic response or a long lecture that was physics based. He spent his life seeking knowledge and used that knowledge to help those around him. He respected people from all walks of life and used Islam as guidance for his journey. He was valiant in his generosity and most often loved to give in anonymity. He sadly passed away too soon in 2005.
I was very lucky to have such wonderful human beings as my parents. Through their life, they invariably imprinted a strong trust in Allah (swt) within me.
This Ramadan, I would like to build a well as a sadaqah jariyah for my late mother and father.
As an only child, I desire to give my parents something in return for all they have given me in this life.
Ramadan is a time to increase our good deeds and to connect with those who regularly go without food and water. This year, we should also reach out to those at greater risk of the coronavirus pandemic who may not have access to adequate protection and healthcare.

There are 780 million people living without clean drinking water. In parts of Africa and Asia, people have to walk up to five miles to get clean water for their village. Women in Africa and Asia walk 4 miles to get the same amount of water that Americans use in two minutes on average in a shower. The clean water crisis is one of the most pressing issues of our lifetime. Through this campaign, we hope to help tackle the crisis directly.
Water is one of the basic necessities of life. Helping people get easy access to clean water means one less thing they have to worry about.
1.5 Million people die from dirty water each year! Through our Thirst Relief programs, we’re providing safe water to enable locals to drink, wash, clean and irrigate their crops as well as hydrate their animals. Our Thirst Relief programs lead to healthier lives, better educated communities and a route out of poverty.
This campaign will bring clean water to Somalia.
